on saturday. Anyone make these?
I make pickles all the time, never done bread and butter but have made dill. limed, sweet, cubed, relishes etc. Love them in fresh salads and sandwiches. Good luck and take a picture or two for us.
I want to try some too. Hopefully someone will post something that has worked for them.
I made some sour pickles. They are like ones in a deli -- brined and fermented. Turned out great -- even my eight year old princess loves them.
Never tried B&B before, looking forward to this.
yup,,,don't have a recipe...I just take dill pickles, make a brine out of vinegar, sugar, and pickling spice to taste, place in frig for at least a week(if you can keep your hands off em)
This is the recipe we have beens using for a while and the results are excellent!
Bread and Butter Pickles
(Hills family recipe)
Cucumbers, thinly sliced, 3/16”
Small onions, thinly sliced, 1/8”
Alternate layers of vegetables with salt and pack in ice. Let stand for 4 hours and drain afterwards.
Bring syrup to a boil and pour over the cucumber and onion slices after they are well drained.
Heat all of the mixture to just below a “boil”.
Put vegetables in hot jars to within ½” head space and cover with syrup.
Wipe the rims with clean cloth and put sterilized lids on. Hand tighten rings.
Yields 8 pints
we always make Garlic dills, I tried making B&B pickles b4 I did something wrong...LOL, but I did find a recipe from "Emril" that was a sweet hot pickle, and they were killer!
