    Excellent, and am very happy for you. SO nice to hear you got that baby from what I am inferring is a good deal on a bid, right?

    Well, even if you spent too much, it is still a darn nice, bulletproof smoker! Once you get the hang of it you will the the king of local smoking! :yahoo:

    I think that's great all the way around. Good deal for you!

    I am waiting on my wife to get home to eat the chicken...I want to let her try the first along with me.

    On the cost of the smoker, I was a bidder at the auction and bid $600 to buy it. Of course, the money goes for the kids and materials for their class...I was prepared to bid up to $800 if it took it to win. It was so heavy the kids and their teacher could not lift it into my pickup, so the teacher brought it to me Monday evening on a low-boy trailer.

    We just ate chicken. It was really good, especially the big pieces that took longer to make done. I should have taken the smaller pieces out earlier since they ended up a little dry. But they were still good.

    One thing I learned is that I must build a large fire in the firebox to get it hot and keep it hot. I skimped on the fire today and messed with it continually to keep the oven part at 210-225. I also learned I better start cuting more firewood. We burn about 3 cords during winter to heat the house. I think I will need at least another cord for the smoker.

    Thanks again for all the help and encouragement. This is a pleasant forum.

    Looks great and great to hear that you liked it. Did you brine the chicken before smoking? If not try that it will help it not dry out

    Glad it was as good as it looked, Gene!!!

    Once you get the hang of your new smoker, you may be able to arrange the smaller pieces into areas that aren't as hot, so it all gets done at the same time.

    LOL---Or you can snack with the little pieces, while the bigger pieces are getting done (When nobody's watching!!!).

    I hear ya on that extra cord. The wife is reminding me that heating comes first, guess I better head back out to the woods with the saws...
