I just starting using a smoker ad how do i add smoke? I use oak however I must not be adding the the chuncks to the right place in the fire.

typically soak prior to adding to fire, or wrapping in foil with some poked holes, point is to get the wood hot enough to smoke but not catch on fire.

What kind of smoker?  Are you putting the chunks directly in the fire?  It depends on what I'm cooking to where and when I add them.  If it's a long smoke I bury a few chunks throughout the charcoal and put a chunk or 2 on top after the coals are good & hot, then usually toss a handful of chips on also for instant smoke.
