I have already converted a warming cabinet to a smoker. It has a traeger hopper with a Smoke Daddy Sportsman series controller. I like it but it is too big for some of the things I do. I was considering converting a smaller propane/charcoal cabinet smoker to a pellet. I already have the hopper and you can get either cheap on marketplace. My concern is being able to keep the temp low in a smaller cabinet. (100-150). Does anyone have experience with this or any words of wisdom? Thanks.

Maybe convert to electric? Then add a smoke generator?

That was another thought. Why bother converting if I could just get an electric one and use a smoke tube? Maybe I just like tinkering too much.
Keeping temps in the 100’s is not for pellet pots. Pellets are for bbq and grilling temps.

An electric converted to PID (as mentioned) is a better option. Propane can work too, that’s what powers my big smokehouse.

What are you wanting to smoke?

I see no reason why you couldn't make it work .
I recently added a hanging rod to my SmokeFire and it works just fine .
I've done SS chubs ,

and a couple small hams ,

Both without issue , but the temps were probably in the lower 200's .
If you watch the IT of what you're smoking and pull at the proper time , it works .

It would be for snack sticks and summer sausages. That’s what the big one is for but I want one for smaller batches. I like to start low. Electric is probably the way to go.
