    Ventless MES 30 Mod Question

No expert here, but I think a hole-saw and a 4" vent assembly from Amazon (or other vendor) would solve the problem for less than $25. If Masterbuilt doesn't want to help you (or even if they do), I think it would be a waste to leave it in its current configuration.

    My modded Masterbuilt bullet smoker

Thanks guys. With this mod, I think I'm about done with this little smoker. I want to order a second charcoal pan from Masterbuilt so I can just swap them out when it's time to reload, but that's a simple thing. Looking forward to trying this one out on a chicken or two now.

    My modded Masterbuilt bullet smoker

BGE vent finally showed up today, and I had it installed in about 20 minutes. Haven't had an opportunity to try it out, but it fit well after a bit of recontouring over my knee and a some BGE felt gasket material on the back.

Modding the Masterbuilt Charcoal Bullet Smoker

I have a slightly modified version of that same smoker, and have posted about it here: http://smokingmeatforums.com/threads/my-modded-masterbuilt-bullet-smoker.270584/ It's a decent little unit, but I think the design of the legs will prevent you from doing some if the more common mods due to...

    Electric smoker mod.

If the element is shot and you don't want to replace it, I don't see any reason not to convert it to charcoal. It's hard to tell from the pics, but you may need to add some dampers/vents to the body of the smoker in the vicinity of the charcoal pan to allow air to the charcoal and to control...

    My modded Masterbuilt bullet smoker

If I had seen a deal like that prior to buying the 18" I would've been all over it, but I haven't even assembled the 18" yet. It's still sitting on a shelf in the basement. I have a tendency to toss all logic and reason aside when it comes to hobbies and invest entirely too much money and time...

    My modded Masterbuilt bullet smoker

Update: Smoked three racks of baby backs on Xmas Eve using a slightly modified BRITU recipe (no MSG, hickory instead of oak and cherry, and Sweet Baby Ray's instead of KCM) and everything went perfect. The combination of Stubb's briquettes and the Thermopro TP08 allowed me to run 5.5+ hrs @...

    My modded Masterbuilt bullet smoker

I picked up an 18" Masterbuilt "Pro" kettle grill during the same sale for $18 and I have a pretty nice gas grill so I don't know if I'll ever try to grill in my little smoker...but it doesn't hurt to have more options. I could always use the extra body to add a third level, but then I'd have...

    My modded Masterbuilt bullet smoker

I probably could, but I'm thinking about doing a BGE damper on the side of the base instead. I dont like the fact that I have to kneel down and peer under it to see how open/closed the vent is. The BGE gasket material around the base, lid, and door has done an excellent job of sealing...

    My modded Masterbuilt bullet smoker

There's about 3" or so between the bottom of the charcoal pan and the inverted lid. I slid a small aluminum baking dish in that space to catch any ashes that fall thru the holes in the bottom of the charcoal pan, just to minimize the likelihood of any lit coals making their way out thru the...

In this area (Atlanta), there are tons of farmer's markets all over the city, and most (if not all) of them stock a wide variety of spices from all over the world. If you're ever in the Decatur, GA area, the Dekalb Farmers Market is a must-see...

    My modded Masterbuilt bullet smoker

Thanks. I have a couple more ideas for this one, like a draft vent from a BGE added to the side of the base pan so I don't have to get down on my hands and knees to adjust the airflow, and a probe pass-through so I can run a wireless thermometer and not have to go outside and check the temp...

    Newb from Atlanta area

Hello. I'm new to smoking and found this site while searching for info on ECBs. I've only made one rack of baby backs in my new smoker, but the family and I are enjoying it so far. I used far too much rub and smoked the ever-lovin' crap out of them, so they tasted kind of like a salty...

    My modded Masterbuilt bullet smoker

I was walking thru Home Depot a couple weeks ago and found a Masterbuilt bullet smoker on clearance for $19, so I figured i'd give it a shot. The employees couldn't find any of them still in the box (they supposedly had three in stock), so the manager agreed to sell me the display model for $15...

    ECB Mod - Walmart Model

Nice mods. I have a very similar Masterbuilt bullet smoker from Home Depot that I picked up for $15. Found another one for $13 that was missing a few pieces and built a cheapo version of a WSM... I used the lid and a set of rack supports to create a base to hold the modified charcoal pan so I...
