has anyone use these? I tried them for the first time today and had the worst time getting them lit. I ended up having to mix them with Pecan.

The flavor is unreal... Just did my very first brisket with them and it was unbelievable flavor. I did about 1/3 wine barrel, 2/3 pecan. WOOOOW

100% Cherry and Wine Barrel Pellets do not burn well on their own

Layer the bottom 1/2 of the row with something that burns well like maple, oak or hickory and the top 1/2 of the row with your wine barrel or cherry pellets

Agree that this flavor is great with beef. In my case though, I bought a used wine barrel and cut it up into chunks. Not as easy as it sounds, that oak is very, very hard.

Seems strange that you had problems getting them lit. If they were made from wine barrels that would make them white oak, either French or American depending on what the barrels were. There comes a point where a cellar master can't shave any more oak from the inside of a wine aging barrel and sells it for scrap or planters or whatever. Oak pellets are pretty easy to light.

I had an issue keeping mesquite pellets I bought from Todd lit yesterday but I think it was my error. I got them lit but didn't think they were giving off enough smoke when it turned out they were giving out textbook TBS. Once I relaxed and left them alone they worked great with the tri-tip roast I smoked yesterday.
