Sorry but when I saw this thread the only thing I could think of was Forrest Gump.

I’ll be driving from California to Alabama
If you're coming through TX and will be anywhere close to Austin, lemme know. We can hook up somewhere or you can spend some time here at the house on the patio with Tracy and I. I'd be happy to put together a really nice meal for you. You can make it an overnight stop if you want.
Wanna tow a smoker from CA back with you? I can meet you in AL to pick it up
Whacha got Brian? I might make the trip to AL to pick it up :emoji_wink:

Just wanted to kind of close this thread off
I had a good trip out to Alabama stopped at several places in Texas couple in Alabama. Hit dreamland and hit the commissary up in Germantown on the way home and another one in Oklahoma I can’t recall the names at this time. We hit nicks in the sticks which is a unique and fun place had 3 of their signature drinks and I was feeling pretty good! But unfortunately the trip home was a little longer and tougher than I thought. I ended up getting sick so Robert and Jim I’d like to thank you guys again for the invites but as I was not feeling well I didn’t want to impose and possibly get anybody else sick. Had a lot of good barbecue out there a couple places weren’t as good I can’t remember the name in Amarillo and My taste buds weren’t that great heading home but overall a good trip

Sorry to hear you got sick, but it still sounds like a fun trip.

Chris

BTW: I can't believe a vehicle with California plates made it thru unscathed traveling in the deep south. I would have suggested a bullet proof vest.

We plan to hit all the Central Texas places like Goldie’s Blacks Austin, Snows etc.
Goldie’s on Sunday to avoid the line is the tale.

We considered the Amtrack and rent a car but GMC came through with our ‘24 truck finally and we’ll RV it instead with the trailer.

There's a lot of California license plates around here, they're moving here in droves.
Wife’s hospital was short of skilled nurses so they recruited from Europe.

Five year contract gave them US citizenship, extra pay and a starting salary of $150k + OT and bennies galore.

Romanian nurses didn’t get 1/20 of that back home. Excellent educations girls brought up to speed fast.

First thing they did when they arrived was buy houses in Texas and Fla.
When the 5 years was up they bailed outta Calif.

Mention Biden and get a real good lecture on the evils of socialism. They suffered under it.

How did you like this place ? I thought it was the best in the Memphis area
I thought it was really really good. I think they thought I was crazy. On the drive up there I was looking at the menu showed you can order by the half pound or pound. I was going to sit in the restaurant but you can only order that way to go.
So I ordered a half pound of brisket, half pound of pulled pork, half pound of smoked turkey, Cooked sausage, pigtails a couple of deviled eggs and some lemon box pie I think that’s all I ordered but it seems like I’m missing something lol. Also got some rub barbecue sauce and went to buy a shirt but they were out of my size. Pulled pork was really good smoked turkey was fantastic. I would definitely be a lot fatter if I lived anywhere close! Thanks to Jim L for the recommendation sorry I couldn’t meet up with you.

Definitely a good trip lotta time on the road that’s for sure. I tend to blend in wherever I go. Had no front plate and was pulling a trailer so it wasn’t very visible plus it’s a Ford diesel truck. I’m a bit rough looking and trust me I was prepared for anything and everything traveling if you know what I mean
