Sorry if this is something that's been posted many times but I couldn't find anything that was what I needed in other threads.
I'm new to the board and to smoking and I had a couple questions I was wondering if some could help with.
Right now I'm using the Brinkman Smoke 'N Pit with the side mounted fire box. It's been great so far (only smoked ribs) but I'm looking to move on up and try other foods. I drilled a hole and added a thermometer close to where I cook the food as well as an oven thermometer in the cooking chamber close to where I place the food. I've been reading a lot about wireless thermometers and the more research I did the more confused I got!
I pretty much need one that won't have any issues when I'm in the house. Now I'm not far from the grill. I have this in the back of my driveway and roughly 30-40 feet from where my family room is located. I'm reading a lot about wireless thermometers that have trouble through walls. Would me just being inside the house present an issue? My kitchen has a window that you can look out and see the grill but it's 5 feet up and of course the grill in down on the driveway. Would that constitute a straight line of sight or would there have to be no obstructions at all for this to work? I want to keep the cooker closed as long as possible and I feel like Im opening it too often to check the oven thermometer.
Also, I read that some have a grill probe as well as a meat probe and others have just 2 meat probes. If I decided to purchase one with 2 meat probes could I use one of the meat probes as a grill probe? If so, how would I go about that?
Is there any one (minus modifications) that you could recommend?
I appreciate the help and I know some of this (if not all) may be a bit hard to follow but any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
