After 8 years of marriage, John & Nancy were really struggling. There seemed to be a constant fight about “something” at any given moment - finances, work, kids, hobbies, faith, chores, friends, you name it…
Anxious to find a solution, John & Nancy finally agreed on something, and decided to see a therapist.
After spending a few minutes getting to know them, the therapist asked what they thought the real problem was.
Nancy went into a long detailed tirade, listing every problem they had ever had in the years they had been married. On and on and on:
Neglect,
Lack of intimacy,
Emptiness,
Loneliness,
Feeling unloved and unlovable,
Respect,
Support,
Appreciation,
Etc…
It was an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had been enduring for years.
Finally, after allowing this for a sufficient length of time, the therapist got up, walked around the desk, and after asking Nancy to stand…
He embraced her, and kissed her full on the mouth - long and passionately, as John watched with a raised eyebrow.
Completely shocked, Nancy shut up and quietly sat down as though in a drunken daze.
The therapist turned to John and said, "This is what Nancy needs at least 3 times a week..!! Can you do this..??"
John looked at the therapist and thought for a moment…
"Well,
I can drop her off here on Mondays & Wednesdays.
But, on Fridays, I go fishing..."
