Hey everyone! I'll be doing my first ever smoke this Saturday. Using a Pit Barrel Cooker.

Any general advice on what to cook first? I'm thinking chicken... but also would like to do some form of beef... what's the easiest?

I say chicken. It is cheap and if you make any mistakes being your first time it won't be an expensive one. Not to mention it tastes good.

Spatchcocked  chicken would be my vote. For beef, you can get a nice thick chuck roast, season well with kosher salt and black pepper, place in a foil pan and smoke it up for some pulled beef sandwiches.

Pork butt would be my recommendation. It's the most forgiving cut of meat out there. And pulled chicken just ain't near as good as pulled pork.

My vote would be a meatloaf. Easy to do and not very time consuming.

Why not throw a chuck steak in with your chicken? They are on the cheap end for beef and are around 3-4 lbs each. There are plenty of recipes for this but essentially keep the seasoning simple with salt, pepper, garlic and chili powder smoke to about 200 IT.
