A question... How do you add more wood to it? Do you open the top and pull inside rack up to add wood? And what temperatures does it go to? Is it good enough to cook/smoke a turkey or chicken or roasts and ribs??
Thanks for the replies... I have been watching BBq Pitmasters and eating my heart out wishing I could cook some of the stuff the contestants made... If I take a few months I can probably save up about $150 give or take a buck or two... I will check out the sources you listed... Thanks...
I have a Big Chief smoker and it works OK, as long as you follow the instructions and finish in the oven or grill. But I am considering something better. I wish I could blow $200 or more but unfortunately being on disability, I am limited to around $100 or less (preferably less) which I know...
I bought a Big Chief smoker recently. I got a Little Chief that my wife's father had, unfortunately I never could get it to heat up. I got rid of it and found the Big Chief. It works great, IF you follow the instructions which say you smoke the meat and then finish in an oven.

Just posted a sort of similar question in the General Forum... I have a Big Chief Smoker I just bought a couple months ago and when I tried to smoke chicken it came out pretty dry. I tried it with a whole chicken and only used two pans of wood and then finished in my oven and it had a good...
I have a Big Chief Smoker I just got. I know they are not made for fully cooking/smoking meat, but are used to add smoke flavor to the meat so you can cook it in an oven (or possibly a grill..I haven't figured out how to do that yet).. I smoked a whole chicken and it turned out pretty dry and...
I have two Hi Mountain Jerky Cure and Seasoning, "Cracked Pepper 'n Garlic", and "Hickory Blend". I got them from Bass Pro Shop.

OK I will look for a thermometer. Right now I have a small table top gas grill that uses the small throw away bottles. I want to get a bigger grill, just haven't found one I like yet, or that is not outrageously priced. I would like a rotisserie since I think that would add a lot more...
Hmm Thanks for the info... So far the batches I have made never last long enough to spoil even though I make 2+ lbs of hamburger or sliced meat at a time. I haven't tried the smoker yet, I figure the next batch I will try that. I let the hamburger and the sliced meat set in fridge for 2 days...
I recently bought a Luhr Jensen Big Chief Front Load Electric 50Lb Smoker and have used it a couple of times. The first time, I followed the brine recipe that came with the smoker on a whole chicken and it turned out pretty good, but a little dry, I used Jack Daniels wood chips and then...
I have a couple of the tube things to make hamburger jerky and I have also bought cheap cuts of meat and sliced it thin and made it that way. I bought the jerky kits at Bass Pro shop. It has all the ingredients needed. I use my kitchen oven to make it, and it turns out pretty good. It took...
I live in Las Vegas NV or as it is known locally "Lost Wages, NV"....
I have been using a small portable gas grill for the last 3 years. It is OK, but I get tired of having to keep changing the little bottles out and since it is small, about the best you can do is cook burgers, hot dogs and...
