i guess i should say we got it up to 275 or so, just to see what it could do, but it required quite a good fire going on down below and wouldn't be able to sustain that for a long cook (like a brisket or pork butt).
i did consider hooking up an electric heat source or something like that for...
Here's a pic of my new build. Most welding done by a good friend. Got the Brinkman charcoal grill for nothing from another friend. The firebox is a 15 gallon drum on its side. 6 inch pipe between the two with a old timey looking cast iron damper. Huge grate, I fit 3 ten pound pork loins on...
Apple is definitely my favorite, but hard to come by. Have had good results with Oak. Have a few Ash trees on my property and will try them soon. Probably with something small in case it doesn't turn out.

it is a brinkmann, and an older (but little used) model. doubt any SFB i can find will fit on well. just learned that...
thanks for the input. honestly didn't know brinkmann made a SFB, was looking at their site for one and didn't see anything. kinda spendy, but might have to go that route. if all else fails, could weld it on i guess.

I'm inheriting a Brinkman charcoal grill like this. Super basic grill. 2 vents on top, two on bottom. Would I be able to add a SFB to this? And would it require a lot of modifications? Would the char-griller SFB be compatible? Thanks for any input you can give.
