Ok I have looked around a little and read opinions on plywood and particle board but I have a boat load of scrap lumber and just one question.

Most of the lumber is pine as in 2x4s, 2x6s, 2x8, 2x10s and 2x12's. I was thinking of doing the tongue and groove thing and building a smokehouse in my barn.

The bottom 4ft will be cement block. Is pine ok for the walls?

    Your advice/opinions greatly appreciated.

Dan, I've seen a lot of smokehouses on here made out of pine so I think it should be just fine. Heck Pop's smokehouse is made out of plywood so if there was anything wrong with pine Pops sure wouldn't be using it!

Dan, morning....    I've had fires in my smoke houses over the years....  You might consider not building it inside the barn....

Just a suggestion...    Grease burns pretty hot, and fast...

You can use pine. What you cannot use is pressure treated. Pine is safe when taking the proper precautions.

I have since decided not to build it in the barn. In fact I haven't started it yet.

I have aquired something I have never seen before, 2 inch thick plywood.

    2ft wide and 8ft long.

I live right up the road from a place that makes insulated buildings and rafters. They have pallets of scrap almost on a daily basis and it's usually pine and free for the taking. The peices normally range between 3 and 4 1/2 ft long. They are 2x4s 2x6s 2x8s 2x10s and 2x12s. Sure make a nice partition in my basement lol. Anyhow, way to many things going on on the farm so I'll post pics when I get it finished.
