    Hey all,

I am wanting to learn how to smoke meat and make some great BBQ. I was given a Brinkmann Smoke n Grill and I don't even know how to use it. [IMG] I am hoping to pick your brains and learn all I can before summer. I love Brisket, pulled pork, chicken etc... I will also be looking to step up to a bigger smoker and will be looking for suggestions. Thanks for hosting this site!

    Welcome!

First off, as mentioned, take the 5 day course...it's pretty basic - but it will give you a GREAT start.

Second, start off your smoking meat adventures with something fairly easy. A pork shouler/pulled pork smoke, or a ckicken, or a couple racks of baby back ribs might be in order.

Also, make SURE before the warm weather hits, that you've got a reliable 'after market' thermometer. The ones that come standard on you Brinkmann (as well as the stock therms on almost ALL of our smokers) can be off by as much as 40 degrees!

Buy a Maverick ET 73 dual probe therm.

Take care of it when not in use, and it will be a VERY valuable tool.

    Good luck with your Que!

Welcome to the SMF John, You've come to the right place to learn the craft of smoking. First advise I 'll offer ya is don't trust the thermometer on your new ECB. Get a good digital.
Start off small as the first couple smokes can be less then perfect. then read up on how you can modify the ECB to preform better.

Thanks for the very kind welcome! [IMG]

I have signed up for the e-course, I have ordered the rub and sauce recipies, and I read for about 2 hours last night. I am looking forward to getting a good smoke going on some pork loin or something like that to start. Maybe some Chicken? What do you think I should start with?

I got my Brinkmann Smoke N Grill as a gift. It is used, and I think a guy just wanted the room in his garage [IMG] Anyway, I have no instructions with this thing, and I have no idea how to use it. Any suggestions?

    Thanks again!
    John

Welcome to SMF, you picked a great place to learn a fun, addictive hobby !!!

Here is a pdf to your smokers owners manual - http://images.brinkmann.net/Docs/Pdf/810-3040-W.pdf

As far as what to smoke first I personally would start with fatties and/or a pork butt for some pulled pork. Neither will require a perfect smoking enviroment to give you a successful first smoke. Reason I say that is, it will most likely take a few smokes for you to get comfortable with how the smoker holds temperatures.

Before your first smoke I would even just run it an hour or two, so you can see what temperature is comfortable to hold it at. Also I would read through a few threads that I will include links to, these will give you numerous ideas on modification you can make to your Brinkman to make it more efficient.

Others gave you great advice on thermometers.

Look forward to hearing and hopefully seeing some Qview from your smokes !!!
