New guy ....let's try this again

Hello. I signed up for this site a week or so ago and when I tried to post this message the site broke so I have just been lurking ever since.

I live in northern California and stumbled across this site while doing some research on smokers. I used to do a pretty good job of slow cooking ribs on this older propane grill I had with my roommate but I got married last summer and got a nice grill as a present. Tried to cook some ribs last fall and they turned out terrible.

Now it's time to step up to a smoker to get 'er done. I am thinking that a gas smoker is probably the best route for me to go at this point and it's been helpful to see what people think on this website about the various products out there. It is interesting that I have not seen many talk about the one put out by Weston Supply since it seems to be all over the internet.

Welcome to SMF. I use gas but I can't help you with the one you are looking at. I can say I like the gas vs. wood or charcoal for smoking. I have a masterbuilt 7-in-1 and like it. I am starting to wonder what it would be like with electric. I think if I get another one I will try electric. I think I am saying I'M LAZY!

That is one but they are going much cheaper direct from the manufacturer http://www.westonsupply.com/Items.aspx?Category=smoke and also seem to be all over EBAY.

It's been interesting reading many of the store names that folks have thrown around on this site. Many I have never heard of. I'm not even sure where the closest Walmart is, probably at least 45 minutes to an hour away and I've only seen a Bass Pro Shop once when driving through Missouri to visit my brother. We do have Home Depot and Lowes though.

Welcome to SMF. I have recently purchased a GOSM but they are scarce as hens teeth. Google gas smokers and then shop until you are satisfied. Good luck.
