New From H Town

    Hello all.  Just getting in to smoking.  

    Purchased a Masterbuilt 40' electro smoker from Academy Sports & Outdoors...Amazon price $349.00...Academy price $199.  Smoking good deal!

    Just finished a 5 lb bone in pork butt at 225 for 10 hours and found it to be tough and not 'falling off the bone'.  A bit disappointing but could have been my fault and not that of the smoker.

    Dabbled in sweet BBQ sauce, east Carolina vinegar-based sauce and west Carolina mustard-based sauce and all tasted great!

    Look forward to being a part of the group.

    Welcome to the board! I was telling Linda about the Carolina sauces, you never see those in Ohio.

    Welcome! One point to keep in mind is always go by internal temp of the meat , not time . I smoke pork butt to an IT of 205 F, then I loosely tent with foil and let it rest for an hour before pulling.
