  1. Good Moroning!

I'm posting this to get some recommendations on what I should purchase next. I'm looking to spend anywhere from $100 and about $1200 on a new smoker. I'm thinking a large vertical smoker is what Id like to buy. I'm also diggin the new Masterbuilt sportsman elite. The only catch to that is its brand new and there will be flaws due to the increased technology they've incorporated. Any thoughts and ideas would be great!!
  2. I always answer this question the same way: 22.5" WSM.  10 yr warranty, best cust service in the business, and you can do anything from drying jerky and mettwurst, to smoking kielbasa or snack sticks, low n slow pulled pork or ribs, to high heat brisket or PBC-style poultry and anything in between.
  3. Hit the search bar and read the reviews. Their are so many choices in your price range. How many people do you want to be able to cook for? Do you want more of a set it and forget it or do you want a lot of hands on? Does it need to be mobile? What do you prefer for fuel?

    Happy smoken.

A common mistake folks make when considering a purchase is price first, looks, features, etc.

As a long-time proponent of buying something once that will last me for years or decades I decide what I need first then look for features that fit those needs.  For example:

    1. How much volume will you need to smoke?  Can the smoker handle both situations easily?

    2. What the largest piece of protein you can imaging smoking?

    3. Ease of use: set and forget or tend continually?

    4. How do you intend to use it, whether constantly or occasionally? Cold smoking, smoke roasting, low n slow or hot n fast, both?

    5. Number of modifications necessary, few or many?

    6. Number of accessories needed, few or many?

There are probably a ton of other personal questions you could ask but once you get the answers they'll steer you toward the perfect smoker.

Definitely give the 22.5" WSM a look. It is a great vertical that works extremely well.

I have an electric Pro 100 ($1399) and I love it .Well insulated for smoking in cold New England winters.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions. I do like the WSM but it's smaller then any of the smokers I currently have. I'd like to find something that can handle at least six or more rack of ribs.
