I'm not sure if I made a mistake?

Yes great idea. I was thinking of putting in a gas burner in the cook chamber since I'm going to have to get rid of the gas grill I have now to make room for my new smoker. I was going to make it a surprise! I think I'll get to the burner after I get at least one good smoke in first. Thanks for the advise.

  2. My quick two cents as always....

If you decide to weld in a permanent reverse flow plate, do not install a raised lip going into the firebox. This will make it easier to clean the cooker. If you go with a removable reverse flow plate,  then do install the raised lip and use the bottom of the cooking chamber to catch the grease and dont try to catch it in the reverse flow plate.

  4. Wouldn't a drain work better. for both weld in and removable?

Ok cool. Thanks for the advise. I do plan at trying a removable RF pan maybe just one side so I clean or add a gas grill in the future. What I did was I got a horizontal air compressor with the pipe fittings on top. I took off the legs and flipped the tank upside down. I'm going to leave the pipe fittings on bottom for clean outs. I'm not going to care too much over unsightly plugs sticking out of the bottom as long as they have a purpose. My job has had some long hours so it hasn't given me much time to work on my project so it will be slow moving for a while.

  6. Yes, still use the drain, just on the removable, weld it into the bottom of the cooking chamber.  You will want everything to drain out of the smoker when not in use, with no puddles of water or juice traped, so think about where you will install it.  Now with the welded in plate and no lip going into the firebox, you can just tilt up the smoker a lil bit and flush everything out the firebox ( whats in the reverse flow plate will run out the drain).

Sorry it's taken so long to send any new pictures. Life comes along and takes away time from hobbies. Well I just and update on the build so far. I got the firebox welded in place, wheels on the fire box, 5" castors in the front. I built a small frame under the tank and welded the legs back onto the tank. Now time to cut the FR plate out of 1/4" plate. I will send more pics as soon as I can.

  8. nice build. Keep the pics coming.

    Happy smoken.

Wow this is coming along nicely, reminds me of my Frank Build only better!

If your smoker performs anything like mine, you may need a baffle for the hot spot that lies in the cook chamber.

Thank you for the advise. Yes I'm going to hang a 1/4" plate inside the FB and under the RF plate for 10-12" under that to try and get even temps. I'm soaking in as much advise as I can because this is my first build.

I got the warmer box almost finished and ledges for racks. I plan to buy some containers to store the food in the warmer. Here is a 6.5 quart container that I plan to replace with stainless ones.

Got the shelves done. Got the baffles done too. One in the FB and one in the CC. The one in cook chamber is about 12" into the chamber. Both baffles are 1/4" plate.
