Just acquired a propane Landmann 3895 Gwla from BJs Wholesale Club online.  I have been using a New Braunfels charcoal/wood smoker for the past few years.  Just got through smoking some fresh caught albacore on the NB, and it was a lot of babysitting tending the briquets and apple wood for over 5 hours.  I don't have that kind of time, so I'm going to try out the Landmann.  After reading a review of the Gwla it appears that there is some reconfiguration needed (digital temperature gauge, a 20 psi adjustable propane regulator, and a high-temperature seal for the door).  Depending upon how well the Gwla regulates, I am considering using some S-glass to insulate the sides.  I have a Big Green Egg, but I use it for direct cooking.  I don't seem to get the intense smoke flavor from the BGE that I do from the NB.  I have a Jenn Air gas barbecue, but it has largely been abandoned.  I have been using charcoal, hardwoods, and fruitwoods for the past five years.  I used a Weber kettle barbecue for over thirty years.

Ordered a heavyduty firebox grate (1/2" rebar) and a convectionplate from Horizon Smokers for the NB. Added a lot of thermal mass. Now I have to restoke the firebox every 30-40 min instead fo every 10-15min. It's tolerable now, but I would like more cooking grate area. I can smoke a 10 lb. salmon, but one always seems to want to go bigger.
