First Smoker: GOSM 20" x 34" or Master Forge Double Door

Discussion in 'Propane Smokers' started by radar, Feb 27, 2012.

  1. New to smoking and the forum.. I found the GOSM at and the Master Forge from lowes. I am leaning towards the master forge because the reviews here on the forum list it as #1 and the GSOM as #4

  2. So I have been reading up on each and I believe I am going to be going for the master forge from lowes. Main reason is the 2 door setup vs one big door. I will be buying this weekend so unless you guys sway me toward the GOSM I will be come the new owner of a Master Forge. :)

  3. Hi Radar, Wish I could give some advice but I just got my Master Forge a couple of weeks ago and the weather has not cooperated since and I have not been able to put it to good use yet. I'm hopeful but this weekend looks like nasty weather again.  [IMG]

I have the gosm and love it.
  6. Ive been reading reviews on different smokers and fuel types for the last about to buy the Master Forge Double Door because of the reviews ive read about it.  I love to bbq and really want to try only problem now is that the nearest Lowes is an hour away and im still waiting to hear from my boss to see if im working today....haha
  7. My wife bought me the Master Forge.  I too will be trying it out for the first time this weekend.  Think I'll try a pork shoulder for starters.
  8. so just got the master forge......seasoned it up and for my first smoke i decided to do something simple so i get to know the smoker and stuff.....and im hungry and anxious to try something i smoked i picked up some nice butterfly porkchops......soaked them in apple juice with a bit of apple cider vinegar....smoking them with a mix of hickory and applewood......going to finish them on the bbq with a bourbon hickory bbq sauce

  9. do yourself a favour Boognish.....check out the other threads for the Master Forge - theres some really good recommended mods like adding the 3/8's inch rope seal to the doors - and get yourself a good dual probe digital thermometer - 1 probe for the meat and 1 for the internal temp of the smoke box......the thermometer on the door of my MF does not work at all - no biggie

I have a GOSM widebody and really like it. It took me a few tries to get to know it but it's working great for me now. A friend of mine at work has a Master Forge and he really likes it. He has brought it to work a few times and has made some really good chicken for all of us. I think for the price they are both good smokers and which ever one you get you will be happy with.

In my opinion ya can't go wrong with the Master Forge. 1 Mod i recommend is to run play sand in the water pan. You will get much better temps and recovery time.
  12. first smoke with the master forge last night was ok.......i decided not to do any mods with it right away just to test it......first smoke ever......turned out alright......i will be adding a seal to the doors however.....lost a lot of smoke through the doors - i wonder why they dont seal the doors at the factory.....
  13. I've had the GOSM for at least 6 years and it's held up great and I love using it temp control is great but my only issue is the heat loss from the single door but all in all it's been great and i think I've gotten my moneys worth
  14. Yeah, I saw that the other day.  Pretty informative.  I wasn't too prepared going into my first smoke, but I will definitely be using the rope.  As of right now, it looks like the door thermo is pretty accurate.  I bought a little oven thermo and put it on the grate since I was in a pinch and they're both matching up.  I'm about 4 hours in and everything's looking nice.  Thanks!
