Hello All,

I'm going to be building a cedar smokehouse, hopefully starting next week. I plan to use a propane burner (Northern Tool version) and also incorporate floor registers for air flow/regulation. My question is where do you guys find your stacks/chimneys? I've checked Amazon and eBay and cannot find any simple, cheap stainless chimneys.

Any help in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Mark

I planned on 2 up high and then 2 lower near the fire box.

So I won't have any issues without a chimney? Just the 4 registers will be sufficient?

Yep...   You already have a stack that is probably 4-6' tall...   Plenty of "thermal suck" to move the smoke and create draft....

.. You are welcome ...

Question about the floor registers: where should I mount them in relation to the flame on the burner? Above the flame? Below the flame? Equal to the flame? And how about the registers at the top? I'm not doing a peaked roof, just a slanted roof from front to back.

So you think 2 staggered is sufficient or still use 4 like I had planned?

Depends on the volume of the smokehouse...    You could use 4 and partially close them down...   That's my suggestion...   That would maximize air flow mixing inside the smokehouse...  that's a good thing...   with a single inlet, the air flow "could" travel in a single path toward the exhaust...   That situation happens in my MES 30...  I had to do several things to get close to uniform heat distribution...

Perfect! I'll stick with my original plan of 4. I can't wait to get started! I just ordered five 3/4x9 flattened steel grates from a buddy who works at a steel shop!

Flattened expanded steel grates are awesome...  Oil them up good and bake them to harden the oil coating..   Gotta wash the salt off frequently...  no biggee...
