I had read that the 5x8 tray had been designed to fit beside the element on the MES30. I bought a MES30 and ordered the 5x8 tray. Masterbuilt  has made a change to the element on the MES 30, and the tray no longer fits beside the element. I put it on the lowest rack to smoke a Pork Butt on rack 2 and drip pan on rack 3, and that worked fine. I smoked 3 Briskets today, 2 flats and a point, which took up the length of the top 3 racks. I put a piece of aluminum about 8x9 inches at a 45 degree angle from the left side of rack 3 that went into the drip pan I put on rack 4 beside the AMNPS, to prevent grease dripping on it. The AMNPS only burned about an inch and a half in 3 hours, it burned almost completely in the 12 hours I smoked the Pork Butt. I think the combination of the grease deflector and drip pan on that shelf aren't letting it get enough air to smoke properly. I'm thinking about cutting it down to fit beside the element, that, or order the 12" tube and try that between the element and the door. I hate to be limited to only two racks for smoking things, since I would have to put drip pan on the third rack and keep the AMNPS on the fourth. Any other ideas besides getting another smoker?

Some stiff wire like paper clips can be made into S hooks. Hang the AMNPS below the bottom rack...JJ

Great idea.
I have the newer style MES too and am in the process of making a external smoke box for the AMNPS. Im just using duct work to make mine. I know it is galvanized but so are the mailbox mods and the duct work they are using.

Hi there and welcome guys!

Dave I believe nunk has discovered the best performing option, the Mailbox Mod.

It sounds like you are going to be loading up your smoker on occasion so it seems the best way to go for you and your style of MES.

Search here on the forum on "Mailbox Mod" and you can get a ton of ideas.  here is my super slim and small footprint one piece mailbox mod.

There are no air holes in the mod box. It has airflow coming under the edges of it is all. Seems to be burning good. I filled i run of the tray about half the v its neen going 3 hours so far.it was about a third burnt an hour ago

Looks like you have it figured out :D

Also another tip, if you microwave your pellets for 1 min, wait 2 min, stir pellets and microwave for another minute you can remove the humidity from the pellets they naturally collect.

You can't tell they have it in them.  This is just a little trip to help ensure they light up easy and stay lit.

I have had some issues with the initial lighting due to humidity in my area and low airflow in my enclosed smoking area and this little tweak eliminates all the problems.

Best of luck :)
