Looking for a new toaster oven

I'm a long term Breville owner, and have been satisfied with all of our Breville purchases, one being a toaster oven which replaced our traditional oven for about 80% of the needs of just the two of us. We had that oven for 6 years that expired about 3 months ago by accident. I was working at...

just say no to boar's head

Sorry, but you're incorrect . Boar's Head is still owned and controlled by member's of the founding family, the Brunkhorsts. In the early 2000's they moved all of their primary operations from NYC to Sarasota, FL which, as I was told, was done to be closer to their largest customer, the Publix...

    Vitamix Blender Input Anyone?

Well, to be blunt, if I was in the market for a high-speed blender I would jump on this offer immediately. A new E320 for $243 is one hell of a deal. Your only regret is that you'll wonder why you didn't go high-speed a long time ago. My daughter and her fiancee purchased a new house a couple...

Does Anyone Have a Problem Eating Cucumbers?

We get our Persian cucumbers at the local Trader Joe's though I suspect that my driving time there, about 5 minutes, is a bit shorter than yours.

Does Anyone Have a Problem Eating Cucumbers?

Try Persian cucumbers. My wife had the same problem many years ago, and while later shopping at a grocery, I bought some and she's never had a problem since. Compared to the standard cucumbers you find in most markets they're a bit smaller, very thin skinned (no peeling necessary), seedless...

What are you paying for gasoline?

From my perspective, you got a pretty good deal. We use the same Shell 93 octane in both of our cars, mine being a 2018 Audi R8 V10, the same engine used by Lamborghini. Filled it up a couple days ago in suburban Chicago and it was $5.49/Gal. I noticed on the pump that regular was $4.39/Gal.

    Potato Pave, a French Classic

Sounds good, and look forward to the outcome. The last time I made the dish I didn't use prosciutto. Instead, I used some Iberico de Bellota ham. An improvement over the prosciutto, but hard to come by.

Ever file an amended tax return? OMG!

The IRS has two primary operating systems, the "Individual Master File System" and the "Business Master File System". Both systems were written in an assembly language, and are approximately 60 years old. Win95 might be considered a significant upgrade.

Has anyone tried Stundenglass for smoking foods / cocktails??

I got the original version of The Smoking Gun about made by PolyScience 10 years, and it works great for special applications. Used on a pitcher of Bloody Marys, and you've got an exponentially improved drink. The last time I used was a couple weeks ag when I was preparing some Chilean sea bass...

    Calabrian Soppressata

The sopressata looks great and it sounds like you nailed it perfectly. Nice job. Have you ever tried sopressa? Looking forward to your efforts with finocchiona. When it comes to Italian charcuterie, that's one of my top favorites.

Pecan Crusted Duck Patties with Cumberland Sauce, garlic wilted spinach, wild rice, Butter buns and side salad with strawberry vinegrette

I'll definitely give the dish a go. It was wasn't mentioned in your write up, but I assume you removed the fat from the duck breasts. As I understand it, the sauce was originally developed to specifically be served wit cold venison. Just another one of those English fruit sauces in the same...

Pecan Crusted Duck Patties with Cumberland Sauce, garlic wilted spinach, wild rice, Butter buns and side salad with strawberry vinegrette

That's a hell of a grand meal you've got there Keith, from start to finish, and the duck patties are exceptional. Cumberland sauce is one that I haven't had or made in years, or more like decades. If I recall correctly, it was one of those many sauces that was originally developed to mask or...
