Finally getting around to slapping together a 1000 Gallon Trailer.

The new style site only lets me select one pic at a time to upload, so no going to be many pics posted.

Started teaching some guys at a new shop how to build smokers. This will be by far the biggest smoker in South America. I am using a 250 gallon for the firebox and will mount a oven/smoker on top of that with slide out, so I can do a whole pig as well.

Stay tuned

Dang! What's going in the main CC....a Kraken?
Someone's gonna build that train car tanker sooner than I thought....

How far are you planning on "inserting" the 250 into the 1000 ???
Not going to insert it at all. Firebox will be 1.5M long x 850 diameter, so should be able to get a raging bonfire in there to feed this beast. Total length of the trailer will be about 8 meters. It's a big bitch. I originally thought the tank was 1/4" but after cutting out a door it is 5/16"

Here's some pics of the client firing up the 500 gallon I built the other day. Also I just finished this comercial smoker tonight. About 120 hrs of work in this, finished in UT orange.

I was wondering if the 1/3rd FB to CC ratio still applied to huge ones like this or not.I thought probably not because the huge volume of air that needs to flow it's gonna eat redwood trees anyway. ??

Nope that 1/3 ratio goes out the window. Pretty much a guess as to what will work. I am sure no one really knows what is optimal. I am planning on running a 10" chimney that will hinge part way up for the road trips.
Going to try a few different ideas I have for offset cookers. I will mount a deflector shield that will also act as a water tray. I will probably have the water gravity fed from the back side of the trailer as it will consume gallons.

Look what I picked up for cheap this morning t the scrap yard. 10" pipe 1/8" thick 6.5 meters long with 2 manifolds that will work perfect. I just need to cut the tank head and insert this in and weld it. This is an old grain elevator. being 6 meters long I now have an extra for another 4000 liter tank I have.

Nice! Can't wait to see this one come together!
I can't help but see that it's nice and sunny there in the pic. It's -3 C here.....

Here's a quick sketch I made of what it will look like. It will have 2 small stacks at the back for the smoker/ oven above the fire box. Or I could put the stacks internally near the oven door and a plate that blocks off the upper part between the cook chamber and the chamber above the fire box to make that part reverse flow and just 1 big stack?
IMG-20171112-WA0002.jpg

700 is the fire box and 630 is the smoker/ oven
The firebox will look like a big version of this with another tank on top which acts as a oven/smoker.

Coming along slowly as I had to go collect another sister tank identical to this today and will be dragging back another trailer full of tanks tomorrow also. Confused me a bit on the chimney. I thought it was 1/8" thick wall. I would look at it again 10 mins later and no it is 3/16" ?? Figured out after close inspection it is actually 3/16" but worn down to 1/8 on 1 side from use. How many tons of grain has passed through this to wear it that much???? I spent some time online yesterday designing the oven/ smoker door above the firebox with my CAD guy from Croatia. Sent the file to the plasma cutter today. Tomorrow I will cut the stack in half and get it ready for the sand blaster. Stay tuned

Is it going to be a regular offset or a reverse flow? Given the large length have you considered a center feed design, that should result in more even temperature in the CC.

Anyway excellent work.

PS. The largest model smoker I've ever seen was a converted 20ft shipping container at a restaurant, but that one wasn't towable.

WOW,grain blasted big time! You ever thought about using an air flow meter to design/test?

Next week on International smoker fabrication...will the Croat's design be flawed? ... Will Rey be able to keep up with the welding at hand?....Tune in to find out!

Not sure how you would make a center feed that is this size and mobile.

Up at 5 am and dragged 3 ton of tanks and steel 120 km a
across the other side of Buenos aires capital where we are fabricating this in a new shop.
Cut up the tanks for the firebox and the oven/smoker cabinet above. Slow going when i have to teach the guys everything from scratch. I will be back there on Monday to work on it with them. Didn't get any pics today, sorry.

Here's some pics from today. I showed the guys how to put together a simple trailer. That's a full length 6 meters (20 ft) of UPN 100mm for the chassis. It will conect about 200mm into the firebox . So total length will be 8.5 meters. Some of the pics look weird as I took them with the selfie side of the camera as my other phone cam sucks.

Ride height for the main chamber will be 18 cm higher than it is sitting here. The rear cook chamber will be level with the main chamber on top and the fire box will hang down 290mm with 300mm ground clearance.

The stack hole is not exactly how i want it, but had to make use of the pipe from the scrap yard with manifold. I will probably block off the top 150mm of this to drive the smoke lower before it enters the stack.

You may need to tilt the screen on your computer to see it, but if you look closely you can see Dave O's face grinning in the door with top air inlets!!
IMG-20171121-WA0028.jpeg

I will run 2 big slide out racks on the cooker above the firebox.
IMG-20171121-WA0036.jpeg

8 leaf springs should keep the trailer from dragging it's ass down the highway.
That's all for today folks!
