I have an electric smoker and a reliable source of small minnows. I would like to dehydrate them for my dog's treats. I wouldn't use smoke or seasoning. Would it be advantageous to salt them first before I dried them? Can anyone provide a simple recipe or method for doing this? Thank you
Here it is. Kind of simple but we like the results.
2 pounds of ordinary ground beef. Not so lean.
2 tablespoons Smokehouse Original Jerky Dry Rub & Mix
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp each of garlic powder and onion powder
Mix it up and put it in the gun right away and make jerky

The unsweetened stuff looks good. I've never made bacon jerky, but I've been thinking about it. I've been looking to do it without any sweetener at all since I have zero sweet tooth and meat and sweet do not go together for me. I'd like to do it in my dehydrator, but it only goes up to 145...
The wife & I been making ground beef jerky in our dehydrator on a weekly basis for a while and now we have hit upon a recipe we both like. Gonna stick with it for over the holidays and then we'll experiment some more. Gadfrey, that's good stuff! Should have gotten into this years ago. We've...
I want to make jerky in my smoker, but I want to use a smaller mesh than the trays have. I seen somewhere some kind of Teflon mesh that came on a roll and you just cut it to fit your tray. Could someone direct me to that or maybe have some other suggestion?
thank you
Jim
Our first jerky attempt in our food dehydrator. A very basic beginner recipe. We didn't want to get exotic right off the bat until we knew we weren't going to botch it up. I don't think it will win any prizes but I am calling it a success. My wife is 10 times fussier about taste than I am...
Here's what we did.
Electric Char-Broil smoker
4.12# chicken
Added water to the smoker
Mixed softened butter, onion powder, poultry seasoning, thyme and put some under the skin and rubbed some onto it. Sprinkled salt & pepper on it.
Put a garlic clove on each side of the breast under the skin...
Smoked a whole chicken in our new smoker for the first time yesterday. First time for the smoker and first time for us (and the chicken). It turned out great. I am getting more confident. Will try jerky next.
Here is the cooker we've used for more years than I care to recall. I grew up with one of these in the kitchen and have owned and used one ever since as the cooler weather permits. When I got married my wife took right to it. She is an expert. Today she roasted an excellent chicken in the...
New guy from Michigan here. I am new to all this, but I hope to learn. I got interested in making jerky and things kind of expanded from there. So here I am.
