Capt Dan. Thanks for the concern about the ash tray. That is the only thing that is not finished fabricating. I still need to put 4 feet on it, a handle and finish the lid. That was all taken into consideration with the design.

Thanks to all for feeling my grief on this project. I hopefully will be able to repair the damage.

Andy that stinks you take all that time to get it right and they mess it up. Hopefully you can get it fixed I agree with Capt Dan get yourself a small sandblaster and do your own so you don't deal with clowns again

  6. That's real nice work my friend!

My tenant who is a master welder in the food business [stainless] offered to build me a smoker after he learned I was buying a Tall boy. I did some research and found it would actually cost less to get a Tall boy from the Guru folks.

I'm curious as to your costs on this project as it looks very much like a Tall Boy. Here is a link to the tall boy:

    and here is it's brochure:

Keep in mind, I am in no way affiliated with these folks as I work for a gardening company out of Vermont.

I think I paid maybe $1700 for the unit with upgraded knobby tires.

The main reason why I got it was because it breaks out into 2 pieces, can fit in the back of NEON and can be moved by 1 person. Plus the fact that I Smell Smoke has won multiple GCs on it.

Here is the list of items and the cost that I have put into it so far.

    sheet metal= free
    screws, washers, nuts= $5
angle iron for base= recycled from a previous project (free)
pipe and threaded rod for hinges= $5
rack supports= recycled from old garage door (free)
    sandblasting=$60
    2 digital thermometers= $10 each (on sale)
    BBQ paint= $40

That is where I stand as of today. I have alot of hours into this project and cannot place a price on that.
    Oh ya........
ADVIL $5 needed that for the headache after banging out from the sandblasting.

Well here it is. Finally got it all together, painted and fired up. I have a few small things to tweek but should be smoking in it next weekend. Bro in law finally showed up today to see it smoke. I told him he could NOT have it (since he was supposed to help build it). You should have seen his face. Thought the poor guy was going to cry..... I told him that he could not have til he smoked me and my family a full meal. He has to pay for the food too. It was a deal. So, it is mine til he smokes me dinner. Here is one pic from today. [IMG] Fantastic work there BB! I'm glad you were able to save it after the sand blasting incident. I wish I could weld half as good as you.
