I prefer propane because of their mechanical simplicity and how easy it is to fix/mod. Simply having the burner and not complicated wiring is a big plus to me.
I didn't want an electric one in case it rained as well, just didn't feel comfortable with that.
As you said unless you're trained...
I very well could be wrong but wouldn't taking the temperature of a surface with a laser therm be different at times than an ambient temperature probe that is taking the actual temp inside?
Where are you aiming the laser probe to take the temperature? Not sure that would be accurate for an ambient temp reading unless I'm understanding wrong.
I think it has to do with the failure rate of the element and the price is costs to fix it. On gen 1 you can switch out just the heat element but on gen II it requires a whole extra piece to be installed with it which is more expensive.
It's not to say everyone will have problems, just a lot...
I was having this issue with deciding between electric and propane for a long time.
I wanted to maybe smoke sausage sometimes but my deciding factor was I wanted to do whole chickens and chickens with crisp skin which I read was sometimes hard to do with electric because 275 degrees was their...
I'm new to the forum so a little confused with all these abbreviations. I've realized MES is Masterbuilt Electric Smoker but what is AMNPS?
Please ignore, figured it out :)
Fabulous. Just what I'm looking for. Glad I made this thread!
Found it on A Maze N's site for a great price compared to else where but unfortunately it says only USA shipping. I'm in Canada so that doesn't seem like it will work. Too bad.
Thank you a ton Jeramy. This is extremely helpful. It is indeed a two door smoker. I was a little confused when to add the wood and all that. Can't wait to do my first one. I think I will do thighs.
My only last question for anyone is what is a good meat thermometer I can leave in the meat in...
This will be my first smoke so I'm a little unclear how exactly to do it.
I turn on the burner and get it to temperature and just add some wood chunks by themselves in the pan above and that's pretty much it? Nothing goes in the pan with the wood?
I just got a propane smoker and I have a few questions.
Do you also use charcoal in the bottom pan and then you add a little wood after the charcoal is going from the burner?
I'm a little confused on this process. Thank you
Sorry about that.
I have the Mastforge Vertical Propane smoker from Lowes.
I assumed briquettes was the ideal wood is there one that you experienced folks prefer better?
Thanks Jeramy
