Old Country BBQ Pits Wrangler Owners Thread

There are a few available at stores in the Dallas area. We picked up one today. It wasn't exactly level so the manager gave us 15% off, so it came to $425. We had to rent a van at a local store to bring it home. It only took us about 20 minutes so we weren't even charged for using the...

The Ultimate Way to Season Cast Iron - Flaxseed oil

It spends about 15 minutes heating up before cooking, then stays in the oven after the steaks are done as it's difficult to remove when it is that hot.  Before we bought it we read several reviews that it could be used in wood fire grills up to 1000 but they must reseason every time, which I...

The Ultimate Way to Season Cast Iron - Flaxseed oil

We have a Raichlen Cast Iron Tuscan Grill that we like to use in our wood fire oven.  We easily get the temp to around 1000 degrees, put the grill over the hot coals to heat up, then cook the steaks.  It only takes about 3 minutes a side for a 2 1/2 inch steak to get to medium rare with...

What to do with this dutch oven?

The self cleaning oven cycle and six coats of flax seed oil as recommended by Cook's Illustrated worked fantastically!

What to do with this dutch oven?

I put it through the self cleaning cycle and it worked like a charm.  Now I'm reseasoning with flax oil.  On the third of six cycles.  I'll post a picture when it's done. Thanks for all the help!

What to do with this dutch oven?

Thanks for all the replies.  I've seen references to putting cast iron in a self cleaning oven, but to remove the racks so the heat and weight don't bend the racks. Can I put it on the oven bottom?

    Hello from Big D!

We love to cook and recently added a Weber smoker to our collection of outdoor equipment. We've beens using our Weber grill to smoke pork butts and briskets, finishing them in the oven inside. So glad we've moved on to a real smoker.  We live in Dallas and love to take advantage of all the time...

What to do with this dutch oven?

We've had a cast iron dutch oven for years and love using it.  We also have a wood fire oven.  One night after making pizza we decided to make bean hole beans in the wood fire oven.  For pizza cooking the temp is close to 1000 degrees. We put the beans in the dutch oven, put the lid on, into...
