    Thanks guys. I gave it a good cleaning and preheated it for a while.  I also put a small aluminum pan on the top rack below the vent as a belt and suspenders approach.  Thanks again for all of the advice.

    Thanks Martin.  I was going to season the AMPS without pellets first. According to directions ...  I was just trying to avoid using chips in the MES, because I was planning to get 100% of my smoke from the AMPS.  I was trying to figure out if that was possible.  Thanks again.
