Masterbilt Gas smoker rusting out - repair or replace (probably replace)

So $20 for two steel panels at Lowe’s. Used wire cutters (because I couldn’t find my tin snips, and didn’t have an angle grinder and didn’t want to drive back out) so it’s very sloppy, but should get me by for the brisket I bought to smoke this weekend. And I remembered why I’m typically a...

Masterbilt Gas smoker rusting out - repair or replace (probably replace)

Good point about the draft and performance. Home Depot/Lowe’s sell sheet metal that may work. Yes, could buy new, but would like to avoid the landfill. I also try to fix/DIY a lot of stuff when I can. If it’s too far gone for me to get to working condition, I’m sure there will be someone on...

Masterbilt Gas smoker rusting out - repair or replace (probably replace)

Resurrecting this thread as the bottom of my smoker has also rusted out...but to a larger degree. For the moment, I'm going to use one of my four racks as a "replacement" bottom, as I rarely even use more than two racks to cook. Burner unit itself not too bad, still able to get clean blue...

    Mouse in my Masterbuilt

Yeah, heard that as well. Just moved the smoker off of deck and onto a newly poured concrete pad a month ago, and actually do plan to plant mint around it (as well as around the other pad I ooured for a new hot tub - I’m told the heat will attract them for nesting in winter as well).

    Mouse in my Masterbuilt

Came here to search and glad I'm not the only one! Opened up the smoker this morning to put some butts on and immediately saw nest on bottom, then the little f&*$r ran right out and under my deck. Threw an old piece of bait/poison out under to follow him...maybe he'll get it, who knows. I've...

    Spatchcock turkey

Got home early just at 2 hours on the smoker and it settled in at 266. Breast temp was 136, so raising it up a little to finish off in another 45 min or so. Looks good so far!

    Spatchcock turkey

Well, let's see how it goes. My Masterbuilt smoker got up to 310 after 20 min or so, added the wood and turkey at same time and turned the heat down a bit. Was at 242 when I walked at the door at 2:40pm. Even if it climbs back up to 310, think I should be in good shape by the time we are home...

    Spatchcock turkey

I have a 12.5 lb bird rubbed up and in the fridge to dry before the super bowl. Thinking of keeping the heat around 275 on the smoker, what do we think a good cook time will look like? I need to be out of the house from 2:45-5pm for a kids BBall game before the Super Bowl (east coast), so...

Initial Setup and Using the Masterbuilt Vertical Propane Smoker

They are all the same, just different sellers. The colors are relatively new option. The ones that come with "meatheads temp guide" may have some affiliation to a different BBQ site (that's also a great resource). It looks like Amazon sells only the White directly...other colors are sold by...

Initial Setup and Using the Masterbuilt Vertical Propane Smoker

Yeah, burner was covered in soot. Cleaned it out and removed the foil cigars I had covering the chip pan holes and seems to be fine. I moved brisket to the oven for an hour, just put t back on the smoker. We'll see how it turns out. Edit: was first brisket and think despite the initial problem...

Initial Setup and Using the Masterbuilt Vertical Propane Smoker

Anyone experience a leak on this before? I put a brisket on a couple of hours ago, and in checking, it seems there is flame not just under the smoker box area, but near the ignitor area, under the door seam. I don't think I've seen that before. It's a bit of a PITA to see, especially given its...

Masterbuilt XL wood pan flair up

Missed that you already are using cast iron. Are you using chips or chunks of wood?

Masterbuild XL Mods - Post your mods here!

For those that prefer a dry cook (empty or sand filled water pan), are you using a regulator to get the heat down? Just put some halfed chickens on and wanted to keep it around 275 for a couple of hours, as I'll be taking to a party and finishing off on the grill. At 10:30 a.m. it was already...

Masterbuilt XL wood pan flair up

Known issue that the XL stock chip pan will cause chips/chunks to flame up and burn rather than smoke. Try this thread to see how some have fixed/replaced the chip pan. I took an old cast iron smoke box from my grill and placed it on top of the stock pan and it seems to be working well for me...
