Since you considered moving it, why not move it forward, abuting the fender. You may have to move both sides but it looks like it would solve you problem of heat radiation. Also if you dropped a log etc. it would not fall onto the light. I have seen boat trailers with lights in and on the fenders.

My first attempt at pork butts turned out good. I covered them with EVOO and rub, then into my GMG DB.I started them at 180 for the first 2 hours to get some smoke going then up to 220 untill the internal temp reached 205. 9 hrs.later, here is what i ended up with.

I too have been considering a pellet pooper. I got a real eye-full when I went to the Green Mountain Grill web site and read their comparison chart. The comnpared their grill and components to the Traeger. I'll let you draw your own conclusion.
