I agree with mneeley490 on that but, I did find on line without any problems, an all aluminum one. I live on the west coast and the salt air will still cause, even the zinc or painted steel ones, rust after awhile. With the all aluminum one I won't ever have to worry about that problem.
I myself see no reason for the meat to spin in my smoker either. I have a large tile over my hot/smoke box to more evenly disperse the heat and as far as poultry goes all my birds are cooked using the "spatscock" method. If I am not mistaken "most" of the juice from a chicken is from the skin...
Strange, I have never ever had to dump the chip/ash tray during any smoke, no matter how long my smoke has been. Even with one of my 20 hour smokes, when it was over, all that was left was left was less than a half tray of gray ash. Still had enough room for a lot more time of adding chips.
Hey BB, Nice to see someone else from the same area as you. I too live near the beach but am farm from being a Bunny (or anything else that represents cute, cuz I'm just an old fart). Again, good to see some one from my area.
Some say the same thing about mesquite but I love it when I smoke just about anything. Oh, yeah, to keep up with the current topic, I keep my vent open fully all the time no matter how "bone chilling cold" in gets here at the beach in San Diego, CA. LOL
Have you tried just popping the pellets in the microwave for about a min. to a min. and a half on high? I don't use the pellets but have on occasion had the same problem with the dust not staying lit and the micro cures that problem right away.
My first time I did a butt was when I got my MES30 a few years ago. I fell victim to the instruction manual that came with the MES. It gives a recipe for the pork butt and tells you to cook until it reaches 175° F. After seeing the smoker on QVC a lot (and them showing the pulled pork) I assumed...
My Home Depot only has the 2nd generation and if you live where there is no Home Depot the delivery is about $55. Not that is not as cheap as the same price for the unit and "free shipping" is it?
Just to let you know, WalMart is having a "Pre-Black Friday sale today and in their add they have what looks like a Gen 1 on sale for $177 with free delivery or pickup.

This will happen too if you wait until the first wood and completely gone out before you add the second application. I find it works best to make sure you add your next load while there is still some red ambers going from the previous load. If you wait until it goes completely out the ashes...
I ordered mine when they were on sale through Home Depot. They come with bolts to attach the smoker to the stand if you have one of the newer 30" models (the one with the extend base on the front) but if you use the old (gen 1) model you use the bolts that you take off the bottom of it. Sure...
I would suggest a stand either one made by MasterBuilt or one you make/find yourself. A lot easier than bending over a lot (especially when your hands are full of meat trays etc. etc. )
I love the support you give your son, even if you did have to travel into the future to do it. I am amazed that you are writing us this 4 months in advance of actually buying the 30" and the fact that you have even traveled another 8 months into the future from there to give it to him a year...
As my name implies, I am a Dirty Old Man And Proud Of It, and I just want to say that I love your sense of humor!! I'm just jealous that I didn't come up with the name you did for the name of the group of friends that I ride together with (a mixed bag of Harleys, Honda RR's and Suzuki gsxr's).
Here is a link to a post that BSImages posted with some nice side by side pictures of the old and new tray that may help you.

Hope this answers your question enough. I was also trying to...
