The Mac turneout awesome. I know, no pics, it didnt happen. I'll one tomorrow. I am cheating and cooking a butt in slow cooker. No time for a smoke. But will be sure and use some leftover mac with it. It was box of bowties, a huge pile of cheese, 2 eggs, condensed milk, 2 cans of water, 1 sleeve...
Ok, I grabbed one of the pre-seasoned ones from Costco tonight. Lot more meat than on the cryovac version. This one is frenched AND tied. I am not sure the weight, Guessing about 6 pounds by the price.
I will try to remember to photo document as I go.

Been thinking of doing one of these. Was in Costco tonight. They had the vac pak'd ones for $3.29 and some that looked meatier and were seasoned in store for $4.29. Didn't really pay attention to the seasoning on the 'ready to smoke' one but I will probably get the vac pak and do my own thing on it.
I purchased one that had been a store return. Had to do minor fix (connectors for fan and auger reversed) but it works great now. Mine does have pretty wild temp swings, but so far it really has not affected the food on my smokes. Very pleased. I have been cooking with MBE's for several years...
I wasn't sure how long it would take so I decided to start last night. I was surprised how little liquid was in the foil when I opened it up. It is delicious tho! Have more than half left for the next few days!
Came out ok, but since I did no cutting down to the meat before rub, didn't get...
Just thought I would throw this up.
I used Jeff's rub. Very little trimming. Went about 10-11 hours at 220-225. Used a little cherry and apple then chunk hickory when I went to bed. Temp when pulled from smoker was 203. Resting in foil in towels for about 9 hours, temp is still above 150...
Hoity.. get it and don't think twice!
I bought a used one and love it. A buddy of mine here on the dock liked it so much he went and bought one at sames. His runs constantly every weekend!

I bought high temp wire and high temp connectors at an appliance parts store. Bought a used older style MES 40 so I took whole back off and rewired the whole thing.

No i didnt check the element. Will do that. It did heat up pretty quick and it seems to smoke fine. Heck, I don't even know what mine is, but am happy with the performance. I got mine for $25 on craigslist. (mine is the old style) Had to hook up the element in it, then after a couple people got...
Unfortunately, I have an older 40.
A friend of mine purchased a new 40 today with the remote. Of course, I was eager to help get it built and smoking.
While we were doing the burn in, we discovered that if you hit the off button on the remote, you just turned of the unit.
This is crazy. You...
Yes, limited availability was what most of them said. But the guy I talked to at store said he did not see any of that item number in the area. Whether he included McDonough in his search, I don't know. Worth checking. I may go to store tomorrow and see if they can find some anywhere. I don't...
Good luck with that! I think the only way that would work for you is if you item number matches the one in the ad listed above.
I am sure that the one for $79 is a discontinued one and they probably have three of them left in Alaska!
Even if you don't succeed getting any money back, you will...
