More Q-View!
Well, I left it at 225 until the last hour. Cranked it back to 300 and finished at 170 exactly at 3pm! Now she rests...waiting with baited breath!
Seems to be going around! Same issues, except mine is only TEN pounds. I am going to be WAY early...told the wife to kick it up a notch on the fixins.
Oh well...live and learn! NEXT year will be perfect!
Thanks for the quick replies y'all.
I was running at 300-325 per Tips recipe. I have since backed her down to 225. There is no danger of finishing late at this point! I need to stretch this baby out as long as possible.
Will try re-poking the probe too.
You guys are great!
Hey All,
Doing my first bird using Tips Slaughterhouse recipes. I think this bird is cooking way too fast. Everyone says you need to get through the 40-140 in under 4 hours...I cruised through it in two! Now this is a small turkey...a hair under 10 pounds. It's only been 2:12 and it's...
Hmmm...well therein lies the rub.
Me: I like things STRONG. I like the smoky/peaty Scotch like Lagavulin and Laphroaig. I LOVE Habanero's and grow my own. I enjoy a good Indian Curry or a killer Thai meal...the kind that wakes you up at 3am! When I drink beer, gimme an IPA with lots-o-hops...
It's the "Perfect Flame" propane smoker from Lowe's. I have smoked a ton of butts and chickens, and man do I love it! Thermometer was way off though.
So it sounds like Hickory should be OK, just go easy. So, only 2 hours of smoke then for a small (9 Pound) Turkey? Normally I refill and do...
Hey All,
Like most of you I was planning on smoking a Turkey for the upcoming holiday. I can't seem to get anything but Hickory & Mesquite locally, so I mail ordered some Applewood (and Alder for a future Salmon). Well, lo and behold, UPS has notified me that due to an "exception" they it...
Ethylene glycol is your standard green/orange anti-freeze and highly toxic.
Propylene glycol is a common food additive used in thousands of products including soda pop, salad dressing and even beer as a foaming agent (Gasp!). It does have anti-freeze characteristics similar to it's dangerous...
When it comes to knives, you get what you pay for. A good pro knife with some weight to it will last for decades and hold an edge much better than the cheaper, lighter stuff.
Wüsthof & Henckels are probably the two most reputable brands. I found a 6" Henckels Cleaver for $35. It's from their...
Just grow your own! I have had a banana plant for years, just because I liked the way it looks. Now, it could actually serve a purpose!
It's indoors for the New York Winter, and after the last frost it hangs out by the pool till Fall.
Hey all!
Up at four, butt's in the smoker, drinkin' some coffee and watchin' the temp via the ET-73 in the kitchen. What a great little device! I do feel a tiny bit guilty cause I'm not "payin' my dues" camped out in the backyard getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.
Oh and you guys were right...
Hey Joe...where ya goin' with that gun in your hand?
(Sorry...couldn't resist!).
Seems we are neighbors...well, same county anyway. I am in Patterson...just up from Brewster!
I went ahead and dropped the cash for Jeff's recipe. I want it to be great!
Besides...It's a small price to pay for all the questions I'm gonna bug y'all with in the future.
Awesome. Thanks all!
Sunday, I go "Hog Wild" with my first butt!
I know this is like asking "Whats the best motor oil", but does anyone have a decent rub recipe that isn't too hot? I love it spicy, but the wife/kids can't take the heat.
On a side note, SPAM is made from "Pork Shoulder &...
FYI: I ordered the ET-73 yesterday from www.thekitchenstore.com.
$39.99 plus $4.99 ground shipping. Since it was such a great deal and I wanted it for the weekend, I sprung for 2-day air ($10...still a great deal). Whadaya know, it arrived TODAY...a day early! Woohoo! I love companies...
