I have a new Oklahoma Joe's offset Vertical smoker and was wondering if anyone ever adds an electrical heating element or pad in the smoke box to assist with boosting the temperature?
I'd like to raise my temps and maybe the electrical add-on might even out some of the temp spikes...

So,,, with briquette charcoal, it is reasonable to think I could get up to 500 deg.
With Lump charcoal, what would that (hotter) temp be that could be sustained?

If I use just 1-2 gallons of briquettes, what is about the maximum consistent temp I can probably get, 300 deg? 350 deg? Higher?
