why so many internal temps. for boston butt?

You're right. I should not have been so snide with tropics. I guess, after Thomas Philips uncalled for tirade, I was feeling a little defensive. My apologies to tropics. But Thomas Phillips can go screw himself ... with a toothpick.

why so many internal temps. for boston butt?

hamrhead, Toothpicks aside, I was entirely civil until Mr. Phillips told me to "STFU," called me a dumbass and more. I somewhat regret responding to his insults in kind, but not entirely. As far as I'm concerned, he reaped what he sewed.

why so many internal temps. for boston butt?

Is a toothpick long enough or strong enough to test with? It seems to me that a toothpick wouldn't penetrate a butt nearly deep enough to test for overall tenderness. And, penetration aside, toothpicks aren't very strong. They break pretty easily. Have you ever broken a toothpick in a butt or...

why so many internal temps. for boston butt?

This is for pulling. It had a nice long stall at 166 but it's moving again. 176 right now.  And i do a combination of checks to see if it's ready . At 190  start to check it with an ice pick every 5 deg. or so. When the pick slides in with little or no resitance, it's done.

why so many internal temps. for boston butt?

I have a boston butt in my smoker right now. I have my own internal temp. preference for it being done which i won't reveal now but i will later. What i want to know is at what internal temp. do YOU pull your smoked boston butt? I see guys saying they take it out from anywhere from 180 - 225...

    Nate's Masterbuilt 30" 2 door propane Mod's

Hey kegtoe, Can you elaborate a bit on the ceramic briquettes? Are you saying you actually got wood smoking at around 200 degrees? That would be great! I see some of those babies in my future. What kind of wood did you use? Thanks

Cold Smoking help with Gas Smoker

Yeah. Wow! So far one regular guy has answered the question and two hypersensitive little old ladies have delivered lectures on manners and chastised me for writing BUY instead of USE. Wow indeed.

Cold Smoking help with Gas Smoker

Thank you for staying the course and answering the question. If pressed together in a smoker box and lit on one end by a torch or something, why wouldn't the pellets burn horizontally down the line using their own heat for ignition like charcoal briquettes do when using the minion method in a...

Cold Smoking help with Gas Smoker

Gee Dave, would that I were PERFECT like you.  Yes, yes I said BUY instead of USE. I'm in my late 60s. Dave, don't get old. You may find there are lots of idiots out there who have no patience with a little slip of the mind. Perhaps I got a bit muddled thinking why BUY one of those Amazen...

Cold Smoking help with Gas Smoker

Please, please pardon me! I should have said USE not BUY a smoker box. You must be a lawyer. Please refer to subparagraph D(3) on page 17 of the original document. (Just kidding, of course). However, the question does remain the same, does it not? And since you admittedly know nothing about...

Cold Smoking help with Gas Smoker

I already have a smoker box and if I can use it for cold smoking, why would I buy one of these Amazen products? I was thinking I could place the pellets in the smoker box, place a ball of aliminum foil at one end of the box to kind of keep the pellets compacted and light one end of the pellets...

Cold Smoking help with Gas Smoker

I have a propane smoker. Can I buy a simple smoker box that people use on grills with wood chips to add smoke flavor but instead use those longer burning wood pellets and once they get going, just shut off the propane all together? This seems as if it should work.

Propane smokers use a lot of wood, so ... .

Hmmmm. I had not considered the cold smoking aspect. I've always wanted to try it. You have me thinking now, giant rats orr no giant rats. :) Can you just add pellets to a smoker box or something like that and hit them with a torch to get them going and cold smoke something that way?

Propane smokers use a lot of wood, so ... .

Believe it or not after that long post about chainsaws etc., I like to keep things simple if I can. Pellets, pipes and mailboxes aren't for me. Plus, if I i want to crank up my smoker for a few minutes to finish off a chicken with crispy skin, I end up with the pellets burning up, right? All...
