"How important is preheating wood" It probably depends on the cooker really. On my reverse flow trailer, it's real important. I have also found that loose bark on a split can cause dirty smoke. I'm not one to remove bark, but now I will pull it off if there's an large air gap between the bark...

Who here has a Char-Griller AKORN Auto Kamado?

I had very similar experiences with my Akorn,,, very efficient but little smoke flavor. In my opinion, it came down to not enough air flow to produce good smoke ( I had to keep vents near closed to keep low and slow temps ). I used a smoke tube and a tip-top-temp on mine. I ultimately moved on...

Drum smokers, are they a thing now?

I've been using a UDS at home (and an occasional comp ) for about 11 years and the bottom has developed multiple rust holes. I keep saying I'm gonna throw it out and build a new one,,,, but for the last couple of years I've simply covered the holes with foil and smoked on. One of my favorite...

Adding a dome thermometer to a Traeger

Hmmm,,, sometimes it takes a brick upside the head to wake the brain up. As soon as I started reading the replies, I remembered I had bought this unused IGrill2 for five bucks at a flea market back in the winter. For reference of how long it's been sitting around on somebody's shelf,,, those...

Adding a dome thermometer to a Traeger

First post,,, sorry for the ramble. So I recently bought my first pellet cooker from a coworker,,, a Traeger Tailgater. I'm certainly not new to smoking meat. In fact, I compete a few times a year and you could hardly throw a rock in my yard and not hit a cooker of some sort. But,,, this is my...
