Thanks, that didn't work though. They only have the parts you can buy through Masterbuilt and they don't want you drilling out the rivets on the back of their units. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they can help otherwise I'll see what I can buy and piece together. Thanks folks!
Hey Folks!
Been a bit since I posted because my MES30 was showing the dreaded ERR1 message code for a couple years now. I have been thinking about ribs so I decided to take it apart because the fix I kept seeing was fairly easy enough.
Got it apart and looked at the connections at the heating...
I bottle and the only reason I do is purely financial. If I had the extra cash right now, I'd keg. I'm in Connecticut and keep my brewed beer in the basement, so during the winter it's cold and hard to ferment/bottle condition and same when it gets ultra-hot in the summer. I had a couple...
I've been brewing for only about 2 years. I still do extract kits and have done maybe 30 or so. I do massive brew days where I'll do 3 kits in a day and it'll take 12-15 hours, so adding the extra time needed for AG isn't something I want to do right now. Plus I'm still having fun and I've...
Glad to have a new homebrewer in the forums! And can't agree more about the smoking and drinking... I finally broke out the smoker again (after a year of it sitting in the corner) and did 4 racks of ribs while drinking homebrews... couldn't have asked for a better day! Went out the next day...
I just checked and the recipe definitely called for Montrachet, but I'll have to try Nottingham next time. I'm really the only one that drinks it anyway and if I can get through the really crappy stuff I made in my first batch, I can get through anything!
They were all 5 gallon batches. The 3rd one I let sit for about 2 months before bottling. Two weeks later I opened a 2L bottle at Thanksgiving and it got mixed reviews. My father-in-law said "If there is foam on the top, the wine is bad." But he hates everything so whatever... My...
Holy cow, that's a pretty hardcore setup. Would love to see some pics of your vast amount of equipment in use! Especially the keezer... I'm hoping to move from bottling to kegging at some point and I want to do a keezer, so I like to look at what other people have done
Don't fall into the trap that I did with my first attempt at making this. I used the same recipe as Mike after finding it on another forum (google "Edwort apfelwein" and you can find it) that said "Use any juice, it all comes out good!" That isn't true. I used store brand apple juice for my...
Another idea is getting a 20oz soda bottle and using that for the ones you want to try with the whiskey. I'd just be really hesitant about putting it in glass. I've read too many "Bottle bomb and now I can't move two fingers" threads on other forums.
If the airlock is still bubbling, you...
The sugars in the whiskey could cause problems too. If you are bottling in plastic bottles it may be worth a try, but I don't know that I would put that in glass. The only argument to try it is I think you used a lot less sugar than normal. All the recipes I've read talk about 2 pounds of...
I'm on my 3rd attempt at making EdWort's apfelwein (which is basically the same, I just used apple juice instead of cider) and in reading the threads over at homebrewtalk and personal experience, you need to let it sit for quite a while for the flavor to come back. The first batch I made I...
