Hey All,

I am happy to find this forum !!

I have been smoking Pork Butt, Ribs, Briskett, Chicken & legs of lamb for 5 years now.

I stumbled on this place via google as I am looking for a verticle charcoal smoker that has 4 shelves - I see them in Propane but not charcoal.

I am currently using 2 Brinkmann Gourmet Smokers and have been for 5 years. I am tired of lifting the whole top to add charcoal so I would like something with a door on it so I can easily change the charcoal or add wood chunks.

I look forward to many hours on here !! Now that it's 20 degrees here in NY !!

Welcome to the joint. I don't have any specifics on models of smoker to check out, but I would like to suggest that you can add extra shelves to just about any smoker out there. You won't really be increasing the tonnage of meat that you can do in the same sized smoker at one time, but you sure can get alot more of the little stuff in with extra racks! (Think ABTs.)

Also, I do understand what you are thinking when you say that you are tired of lifting the top on a bullet type smoker. Front loaders do seem sweeter for access.

If you havent yet, scroll down to the section about the different types of smokers and read all you can stand, there are lots of stories and ideas there from all sorts of folks with the hands on know how.

Welcome to the smokin' capital on the net, SMF that is. Looks like your going to enjoy this site, the folks, the smokes and the jokes.

Welcome to smf. Lots of info on the site. I don't remember if the smoker that I am thinking about has four shelfs or not, but I know its a front loader and its charcoal. It might be a brinkmann, not sure in my area Menards sells it. But maybe Home Depot or Lowes has something like it.

I have seen this one this one only has 2 shelves and holds the same as my "gourmet" smokers I usually run 2 goumets at one time.

On a "smoke party day" I usually make 2 pork butts - I put the butts up at 6:00am they usually take 12 hours each and the take up a whole shelf each. I usually smoke 4 racks of ribs they go up at 6:00am and are usually done by 1:00pm they I usally put up 2 chickens when I take the ribs off, they take 3-4 hours I take the ribs off and the guests that come early reap the benefits.

I was thinking of getting the BBQ Grillware Propane smoker as it has 4 nice size racks in it - but I use charcoal & wood don't know if I could get used to propane - seems an unnatural way to smoke !!!

Thanks for the welcome and of course I am your humble student SO TEACH ME !!!
