I swear by that Himalayan sea salt suze. Love the stuff

We bought some a while back....neither one of us cares for it. Have never been able to figure out what it is we don't like about it, we just don't......:dunno

In the pioneer history of southern Ohio, the Indians and settlers tapped salt springs near Jackson, and they'd boil the water down to salt.

well, jar, i'm not gonna argue with someone with your knowledge base.

tell me what i can get from amazon to show me i'm  wrong. if i can afford it,  i'll try it.

There's a lot of salt mining under Lake Erie. That's where our highway salt comes from.

Our neighborhood has a pedestrian bridge over the main CSX line hauling coal north. But one time a northbound train of hopper cars was fast and empty. The insides of the cars were dusted white, so it must have been an empty salt train going back after a delivery.

k, we established that all salt is sea salt.

we also established that some differs from others.

for myself, i know the coarseness of the grind makes a big difference. i doubt gourmet salt would taste as good on popcorn as plain salt unless finely ground.

what we haven't established is how many salts one should keep on hand.

i already have 5. that seems insane, yet each has a use..

ah, you never tried popcorn salt, right, timber?

you gotta try it. they tend to add butter flavor but the big deal is how very fine it's ground.

you don't need that on everything but popcorn n fries beg for it.

that's how movie popcorn is made to taste great.

no special salt, just very fine salt.

Popcorn salt??
exactly. I will try it if I see it. I have of course had movie house popcorn and it was wonderful. I have also ground up sea salt in my coffee grinder to make fine salt when i have ran out of regular fine salt. I have never discussed salt so much before. Man my life is boring.

I should probably just google this but is that like seviche?

I guess it's a marinaded sashimi. There are thousands of versions and variations! At my PM job it's done Hawaiian style: alae salt, inamona (roast kukui nut). ogo (a type if seaweed) and green onions. At the fish market I make it just like what's in the bowl above: onions, green onions, Hawaiian rock salt (not the red one: ala'e), sesame seeds, sesame oil and red chilli flakes. I also made a bowl of spicy poke with the same ingredients but instead of chilli flakes I put in sriracha and mayo!

I think I have at least ten different salts at home...

Edit: with ahi it's like a sashimi but it can be made with cooked items as well! My favorite poke is smoked octopus poke...

I love Ceviche, but Poke take it to the next level! Tako Poke was in my lunch box almost everyday when I was working there. Then the happy hour poke at Fugi Mamas was dinner with a Lichee martini! What's Fugi Mamas now? Red Door or something like that.

It's red water cafe now. Red water in Hawaiian is Waimea which is the name of the town its in.

Smoked tako (octopus) poke is unreal good!

If you buy poke from a store here the best is at Safeway and second best is Costco... I don't know why but the "local" stores here aren't as good!

A lychee martini sounds really good right now!!!
