Going to be putting a pull out ash tray in my box. Any area under the fire grate is not included in the calculations correct?
 
Feldon's does include the area under the grate. Though placing your grate unusually high will skew the results.

I have not been around for a while, but there is an improved calculator used on this forum that I am not familiar with, so my take on it may not be up to date.
