I am considering a WSM and would like the 22.5 but it's almost $100.00 more than the 18.5. Would I be disappointed in the 18.5? I now have a Masterbuilt XL that works OK but would like a good charcoal smoker that I could take with me when needed. The best price I have found on the 18.5 is $257.00   and $340.00 on the 22.5, both with free shipping. I feel the 18.5 would be more portable if needed but will it hold enough meat. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I have an 18.5 and love it.

It burns a lot less charcoal than the 22.5 and I can put enough food in it at one time to feed us for a week or two.

Plenty of room to make food for a good sized party too...

Put my handle in the search tool up top and you can see just how much I use it and the amount of food I put in it..

  Have a great day!!

If you plan on moving it around a lot you may be better off with the 18.5. I have the 22.5 &  sometimes I wish it was bigger. It does use more charcoal than the 18.5, but you don't have to cut rib racks in half to get them on & you just have more room for your food. A couple racks of ribs, a pan of beans, some ABT's and a fattie or two. It can fill up quickly. You need to decide if it's more important to be able to move it around easily or have the space to smoke more food.

I have the 18.5 and I love it, its perfect for the wife and I and when I have people over it hasn't been a problem. For me for the few times I would need the extra room you get with the 22.5 just wasn't worth the extra money or the space it would take. If you plan to take it mobile from time to time the 18.5 is going to be way easier to transport. Just my 2¢.

Yeah... it will depend on how much you smoke at one go, I have the 22.5" and love having the extra room. For me I go with the theory of it's better to have the space when you need it, instead of wishing you had it. You can also reduce the amount of charcoal you use by either buying the ring from the 18.5" WSM or making a smaller charcoal basket out of expanded metal.
