I've never smoked anything.  Been looking at many smokers on line and trying to learn as much as i can.  I like to build things.  Have a small work shop in my garage. A little background.  I'm in my 60s , retired , live in Mi., Wing Nut comes from my time in the Air Force, it was not a carrier.

On my way north this spring i'm going to stop in Lynchburg Tn. and buy a barrel from Jack Daniels ( empty ) Full would be nice but to expensive.  I saw the picture of the smoker made from a wine barrel.  I would love to build a smoker like that. Would appreciate any and all information i can get.  Would be glad to pay for detailed plans if they are available

Thank you very much in advance.

Welcome to the site Ed.  I know of a fellow, on another smoking discussion page, who made a smoker out of a wooden barrel.

It's been several years since I read about his experience and I can't remember if he burned coals in the barrel or only used it with an external smoke generator.  I do remember that he eventually gave up on it as it was too difficult to keep the barrel from drying out and opening up at the stave seams.  Hope that I haven't discouraged you as that was not my intent.  I hope that you find a way to make it work and post up pictures of your build.

Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
