Who Likes Philly Cheese Steak?

    Or should I say who doesn't!![​IMG]

    Got some thinly sliced Ribeye Steaks at the Super H Mart the other day,...time to make some Philly Cheese Steak's.

    Started with some baby Portabella & white Shrooms and one large yellow onion:



    Onions and shrooms all sauteed up:


    Removed the onions and shrooms and started the Ribeye's:


    Steaks all cooked, added Onion, shrooms and provalone to the mix:


    To that added some shreaded Mozzarella:


    Mixed it all to let the cheese melt:


    Put in some crusty Bolillos buns, added some more Mozzarella and put it under the broiler for a couple minutes:



    Man-O-Man were these ever good!!

    Tes sir now thats a good philly cheese steak alright. You did it right with thoses buns. The bread really makes a differance no matter who you are. Great Job

    Great looking Cheese Steak...

    Or should I say Cheese Steak Wit... (or is that just for those from NY or NJ?)[​IMG]

    All ya needed was to have some cheese whiz mixed in there to make it a TRUE philly cheese steak. Regardless, that looks fantastic!!

    Ya know, I saw that on tv the other day, about a couple of cheese steak joints in Philly with the cheese whiz. I guess I've never had a "true" Philly cheese steak. I've always had it Provalone and or mozzarella. Sure was good though.

    I'd agree that it doesn't matter what kind of cheese is used, but the people from the city know that cheese whiz is the bomb :D

    Boy, you just made me want to go to Philly. I used to work for a company in King of Prussia PA and the cheese steaks were the best.

    I see local place's claim to have Philly cheese steaks, I get my hopes up, order one, only to be disappointed. I have done this quite a bit. Now I stick with the hot dogs.

    I could never recreate "the taste" it may be the seasoned grill or something.

    If anyone can point me to a place that has authentic cheese steak in the Midwest, I would be most appreciative.

    Nice looking cheesesteaks. Wishing I had one of those right now. But I gotta say that you're gonna need some whiz to top those off.

    Only options you would get would be
    #1 whiz
    #2 or #3 American or Provolone

    Careful how you order them in Philly, they are great folks, as long as you stay on their good side [​IMG]

    I've lived within 50 miles of Philly all of my life, and any place that uses cheeze whiz doesn't get the business of anyone I know. Provolone, mozza, American, or anything but cheeze whiz phony cheeze!

    If you want to try something really great, turn it into a "Weber":
    Invented in the early 60s at a drive-in named "Smitty's" in Quakertown, PA (my birth-town).
    Same as cheese steak, except No onions, no shrooms, and it has mayo instead of steak sauce, cheese mixed with the meat, topped with lettuce & tomato.

    BTW: The name "Weber" was taken from a truck driver who used to frequent Smitty's & order his cheese steak that way.

    That "Weber" sounds pretty good. Until I saw it on TV the other day I would have never guessed you would put cheese whiz on Philly cheese steak, but I guess it depends on where you live. Down here we make a spicy queso with melted velveeta and rotel tomatoes and green chilis, I'll bet that would be good on it.

    Texas-ize those...

    2" thick Rib Eyes, med. rare
    smothered in onions and mushrooms
    sprinkle a little parmesan on 'em
    sop up the Au Jus with any roll ya want!

    Actually not NJ or NY, South Philly! It's been "put out there" through tv shows that are about the Pat's vs. Geno's "war" in South Philly. Neither of the two are even close to the best cheesesteaks around here!!!

     
  20. You guys can discuss it all you want... Im still hungry for one!! Steak, cheese, onions, green pepper, make no matter... its all good!
