on cabelas i found the masterbuilt smokehouse (the black one) for $200 plus about $30 shipping but only 90 day warranty.

i can get it at sams club for about same price but i would have to buy a $40 membership. that also includes a 90 day warranty but i can buy a 3 year warranty for $30 there.

i am very interested in an extended warranty but cabelas does not offer it.

Welcome to SMF. It may very well be worth buying the membership to get the extended warranty alone but there are also some good deals on other things at Sam's Club like large rolls of foil, and cellophane. We find there are other good deals there too just kinda gotta compare prices like anywhere else

i will just order it tonight from cabelas since i read they have good reviews/customer service. i checked all sams clubs in my area and they arent available so i will forgo the optional 3 year warranty since only sams club offers it. i also am a costco member so i can get supplies there.

few questions

1. would it be a good idea to use a surge protector just in case or just plug it into the wall outlet? i dont want the electronics ruined if there is a power surge or outage.

2. not sure if i should put it in the garage or outside, would the garage be more suitable? rain wont get in so i guess i wouldnt need a cover for it. theres plenty of room in the garage.

3. i own a thermopen, not sure i want to spend money on a meat probe. would it be best to just sell the thermopen and get a meat probe? i figure i can try to time it and check the meat with the thermopen near the end of the cooks.

I sent Sams headquarters an email and complained. After a nasty email about there custormer service they finally replied. They asked what store I needed it at and send them the info. They said they would oblige me with no shipping cost. So after all my hard work I decided to purchase a 10 X 10 shed for my smoking process and hold off on the mES. Just ask them why do you have an exclusive item that you do not offer in house. They will work with you if not tell them you will be posting there reply in smoke house meat forum where there are 10,000 members who you are sure shop at Sam's club that will probably shop else where after reading such a thread.

Got mine at Walmart. Site to store no shipping. 180 bucks. Been using it for six months no problem. Get a probe. You might even need 2 or 3. Depends on the number of cuts you have going at any given time. Welcome to SMF.

I am with Jerry the warrantee is worth it's weight in gold alone plus the other benefits.

Sam's club is also the only place to get non-pumped or "enhanced" Choice grade meat products in my area, so they get my fee for the privledge of getting more of my $$. If it wasn't for diapers and meat, I would also avoid the place, but no such luck.

I got the new 40" at sam's. Paid the membership and drove 3hrs to get it. My suggestion is see if you can get a free 1 day pass and save yourself $50. Wish I would have

I don't mean to be critical, but why send the nasty complaint email, if you didn't intend to follow through on the purchase. You were getting a deal. My local Sams didn't stock the MES I had to buy it online. Since you could save $30 or $40 bucks shipping, and since Sams was putting on there Good Customer Service hat, unless some unforeseen obstacle prevented the purchase, its seems logical to go ahead with the reciprical purchase. I can understand having a shed to do smoking and other stuff, but hey the MES comes with a heavy duty cover and can sit for a month or so outside if necessary.
Vendors are jumping through all kinds of hoops right now to keep customers happy, whenever you decide to follow up with the MES purchase Sams might not be as generous. One thing is a given, prices on the MES have not fallen, they increased twice last year and will most likely do the same this year. You might have lost $50-$60 bucks (freight + potential price increase).

We don't shop at Sams as a primary food and supplies source. Sams is our backup, we use Costco, Winco, and Sams in that order. BUT when I need a big bag of raw chicken wings for our Super Bowl party, or needed 6 packages of Short Ribs for a graduation party in December, Sams had em. 2008 we did more parties and big cook outs than ever before. Sams was a real help with some of the supplies. One thing I like about Sams compared to Costco, is almost no lines. Costco here is HUGE, there are 3 within 10-15 minutes of us. There is only one Sams, and Sams is never busy. If you really know your prices you can save a buck or two at Sams.
So for me the extra convience, some good pricing, and good meat is worth the price of membership.

Note my wife is not convienced.
