Been employed in the oil/gas industry since 1983. I drove heavy diesel truck for about 10 years. I was a Safety Supervisor for 8-1/2 years for a contract company (this is a vague job title for someone who basically handles everything to do with safety).
I held various technician licenses and certificates of qualifications and/or was experienced in fire extinguisher service, low and high pressure hydrostatic testing of pressure vessels, kitchen grease hood extinguishing systems, overhaul level maintenance on SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus). Calibration/testing of fixed system toxic/flammable gas and fire detection systems, handheld gas detectors, including intermediate level printed circuit board repair. Also, supervision of potentially hazardous job sites (largest having in excess of 1,400 workers on site). Emergency Response Team member: Low-Angle/High-Angle and Confined Space Rescue, EMT/Basic Emergency Care provider, Level I, II, III and V Hazwoper trained (hazardous waste operations and emergency response), level V being Incident Commander. Instructor for a battery of industrial safety related courses/topics. Travel for emergency response to large incidents when spe******ts of my fields of qualification were needed. This is just a sample of what I was doing then. It was a good job, but the pay lacked sometimes.
I'm back in the trucks again since August, 2000 (still in the oilfield) and still doing something I enjoy without a bundle of job stress to go with it. I have 13-1/2 years experience in my current job, hauling petroleum crude oil. It's the best job there is in the oilfield with great pay. And I'm home everynight, so my kids always know who their dad is when he shows up at the door...talking from experience, this is important!!! I've never drawn on an unemployement check, which is pretty important too.
Later, folks. Enjoy the forum.
