As Admin and Mods, we have often been asked "Why can't we give points?" Well, truth be told, we would love to be able to offer that feature but the Huddler format doesn't support it.

I have seen many posts where the "points smiley"

has been used, but I'd like to take a moment to point out another feature that is supported by Huddler.

If you look at the top of this box, you will see the date this post was made, the rating and what number this post is in this thread.  What I would like to focus on is the Rating.

If you like a posters thread for what ever reason, you can rate the post. "How do I do that?" you ask? Well, let's move down to the bottom of this box. In the tool bar at the bottom you will find several buttons, one of them is a green "thumbs up", when you place you cursor over the button a message box pops up stating; "If this is a great post, give it a thumbs up!" By click on this button you will give the thread a rating of 1. Each time the "thumbs up" button is clicked, the rating number will go up. But remember, you can only rate a post once. If you have already rated the thread, a message pops up stating that you have already rated the thread.

I hope that I have edjumacated all of you on this great feature and hope that next time you put up the points smiley that you'll also click on the "thumbs up" button at the bottom of the post.

Enjoy!

Thanks Dutch,

I have used this now & then, but I think most of us who became fond of the old points system are rather bored with this thumbs up thingy. It's like saying how many first downs you got in the first quarter.

The old points system was more of the score of the game, or your record overall.

Not a big deal though. There are other things more important to me, like the "Posts started by page". I miss that more than anything else. I used to use it all the time to find posts from everybody, including my own.

Thanks for your explanation though,

I agree.  Other than just being nice (which most of us are) there is little motivation for OTBS or others to go out of their way to help tutor folks.  Before, we'd be thanked by getting our points up'd and it was always something to motivate some of us.  I also agee that this is secondary to making the site a bit more user friendly to be able to find our old stuff.

But it's all good.  I know everyone on your end is just trying to do their best to make the SMF a little better everyday for it's users.

And maybe there is that I don't know about, but is there a way to filter members OR posts and have them show up as a list by what has the most "thumbs up"?  Now that I really think about it, the old points system was better.  Especially for a lot of us who really tried to build up a positive reputation.  Sorry, just being honest.

Jay,

I know that Jeff is taking all the suggestions back to huddler and they have a long list of things they are working on.  I believe advancing the search function is one of them.

You dont have to be sorry for being honest. I know that Jeff wants the suggestions so that we can take it back to huddler and they can make this better.

And that's the number one thing that will continue to make the SMF the premier smoking foods site...listening to the users.  I know you can't make everyone happy.  But just to know that folks are being heard (and noticed for speaking up) will go a long way to keeping folks happy.

Thank you for the response.  It's good to know the powers that be are listening
