What if my butt is done too soon?

    I'm starting an 8.5 lb at 5 or 6 to bring to ny fantasy draft tomorrow, leaving at 10 a.m. or a little sooner. How long can I keep it in a cooler b4 it cools & tightens up or spoiling becomes an issue? Around midnight it will have to go to the oven. Rain possible tonight and its the cheap MES.. I'll be able to sleep worry free that way. I want to pull it and put it in the roaster right b4 I leave. Rubbing with Bad Byron's Butt Rub & I'm going to spritz with Dr Pepper & worcestershire.

    I have had A butt double foiled and towel wrapped in the cooler for over 4 hours before and it was still too dang hot to handle bare handed. On another note, that puppy might take 12 to 14 hours all in all. You should be fine.

    I just got it in. Trying to get as much smoke to it as I can in case it does have to go in the oven. Burned my @#&*! finger on the AMNPS! Went with about 3/5 hickory & 1/5 cherry.
  4. You should be fine. What temp are you smoking at?

    It goes between 250-220

    FInger must have messed with the arithmatic portion of the brain... 3/5 + 1/5... you're missing a fifth of your wood.

    Down a finger trying to type on my phone. For some reason my pellets just burnt from the bottom up. Reloaded pellets. Didn't burn long enough. Re-lit. It got around 8 hrs of smoke. At 4:30 itbwas raining & temp was 180 so I foiled it with the Dr Pepper & w sauce. Set but didn't turn on the alarm on my ET 732. I woke up at 7:15 & the temp is 215. It rurned out great. The bone fell right out. I even found out my oven is at least 30 deg off. Sorry, no pics. Just wanted to sleep every time I got up. 2:30 , 4:30 & 7:15

    I know for some the late night wake ups are part of the process to be enjoyed, but we have an infant son-I'm all about making it as simple as I can. I'm happy to get 4-6hrs of smoke then wrap in foil and put in the oven on low overnight -when its done it goes in a cooler to rest until chow time.

    Ron the AMNPS is designed to burn HOT along the Bottom. That causes the pellets on top to Smolder awhile, giving all that great TBS, before they burn. I use a torch to light the pellets through the hole and from the bottom. When I get a good cherry going I place a smal handful of pellets on top of the cherry and the AMNPS is off and running strong...JJ
