I am speechless on the price of that roast.  I didn't know meat could even come close to that price.  I see the marbling is top notch.  I am sure it tastes good but not that good.

Yeah Wagyu Beef is pricy but it absolutely has a 100% overall taste better than choice and so tender it melts in your mouth. That is why professional BBQers pretty much use that grade of meat and why they win hundreds of thousands in competitions.

So, when Myron Mixon is compeating for a 50,000$ top prize he is using a $5,000 15 lb Wagyu packer
Brisket? What happens if he comes in Third? That's a lot of $$$ to spend

He wins more than he loses and better grade of meat is one reason why.

About $3.25 here in Argentina       That's for 2 year old cattle    Our cattle are grass fed, so the briskets are long and thin here.

Lemans, I'd move before I paid that! West Texas prices are running 1.97 for packer and about 3.00 for a flat.

I guess I'm going to have to go shopping at Winco or Wallyworld.  Out of my way but worth the gas.  I saw trimmed Choice half packers (cut lengthwise) at Costco two weeks ago for $5.99/lb.  My grocer has trimmed flats for $7.99/lb on sale, $9.99/lb regular price.

Mowin, I don't know if you are near the Restaurant Depot in Rochester or if you can buy there but they have good prices on brisket.  i just pulled a 17 pound Angus packet from cure for pastrami today.  It's coated in spices and napping in the basement fridge for a few days before heading to a smoker.  I think it was about $2.75/lb.  Regular brisket was about $2.39 at the time although I've seen it at around $2.10 a few months back.

    Where do you live?

  16. In that part of the country I would be talking to the Jewish deli's. Bound to be able to find one to sell you a packer before they turn it into corned beef

I'm not sure what it is, but even though the price for choice packer trimmed brisket has come down to about $2.46 at the Wal-Marts around here, the quality of the meat is horrendous compared to when is it was $2.96/lb just a couple of months ago. They are either very large, or very small, odd uneven cuts, very thin flats and thick triangular points, sometimes with chunks missing, and huge chunks of fat that have to be trimmed off.

We're supposed to get a Costco here in Tulsa this spring sometime. Hopefully they will carry the prime packers that everyone raves about.

the meat packing companies have been cutting them skinny for quite a while now, to keep the weight up they cut them longer in the flat adding meat that is thin and would have been used in the past for pastrami. When I lived in central texas I read quite a few articles about the bbq joints complaining about the new cut, they said they couldn't even use the added thin flat.

I get prime packers at Costco for $2.69-$2.79 here in Wichita Ks. 12-20 lb sizes. Our Sam's has choice for around $2.49. Usually a bit smaller than the Costco packers. Our WMs usually only have flats or points.

Wichita Chief. I get mine at the same Costco. Unfortunately I don't have time now. Trying to move to bigger place out in country. Only 5 weeks or so left.
