I am in bad need of a good thermometer this past weekend I went to walmart and pick up a digital thermometer for 16 bucks. And it worked good. I also bought a new thermometer for my Smoke n Pit smoker and installed it. But I do not think the temp is on the money..So I have came across a Mavrick ET-7 Wireless thermometer with two probes. I was thinking I could use one for my meat. and keep the other probe on the cooking rack to montior the temp like that. and then I could see how far off my other thermometer is off by. My ? for you guys is will that work? And will that be a good thermometer? And please let me know or tell me if you all have any more suggestions..Thanks

Im sure allot of us will pipe in on this,
there are quite a few using the maverick et7 and et 73
the 73 has 2 probes, one for meat and one for smoker temp
you can set the high and low alarms for the smoker and also set the meat temp. I love mine and use it all the time
I know the et7 is similar but with 2 meat probes. i dont know all the differences but someone else will be along to comment also

I dont have the 7 but I do own a Maverick ET-73, which has 1 probe for the meat and 1 probe for grate and it works like a champ...best money I ever spent

    Good Luck

I also own the ET-73 and have pretty good luck with it. Just be careful of the probe wires (dont bend or submerge in water) It has a couple of little things I don't like about it mostly the on/off button that you have to take the back off of but it works pretty good. You could also buy another meat probe and stick it in the smoker probe port for (2) meat probes on the same thermometer...

jjrockett pretty much nailed it, the 73 is the one you want if you want to use it to monitor somoker box because the one probe for the smoker has alarms for both high and low temps. allows you to have complete temp management on the reciever in your pocket. the meat probe just has a temp setting which will set off alarm when it reaches that temp.

the ET-7 does not offer the high low settings on either of the probes, just the one setting which can be set different for each probe and each probe would go in a separate piece a meat.

you could use the ET-73 the same way as the ET-7 in separate pieces a meat, but the ET-7 cannot monitor smoker temps with a low temp warning signal. for that reason alone i recomend the ET-73.

also watch those wlmrt thermos, i bought 2 of them on sale last summer, they read 30 degrees difference using boiling water to test and niether was accurate.

for a analog thermo like for mounting on smoker, tel tru is the brand i would go with.

The ET-7 will work fine as long as you don't need an alarm to go off if your smoker temperature falls too low. The 7 only alarms when a temperature goes above the set point.

I have a 7, and I guess it's alright. But it looks and feels like a toy, and the wireless function is not dependable enough for me to completely trust it. However, I didn't see anything better out there either. The price wasn't bad, so I'm not too upset with it.

I have the ET-73 and like it a lot. Initially I was attracted to it because it would allow me to monitor high and low smoker temps as well as the meat temp. Now days I just use it to monitor the smoker temp. But its good to know that if I ever need those features, I have em. I've had mine for going on 2 years now. For fun I checked its accuracy with ice water then boiling water last week. Still spot on accurate. Hey its even got a smokey patina to it now. Its no longer snow white.
